Promising solution to plastic pollution

Promising solution to plastic pollution | Upcycling Ventures | Scoop.it
Harvard's Wyss Institute researchers find that a fully degradable bioplastic isolated from shrimp shells could provide a solution to planet-clogging plastics.
Christine Rico's insight:

Bioplastics are an ecological improvement over traditional plastics made from petroleum products.  But most bioplastics currently on the market are made from plants that have agricultural uses, are not fully biodegradeable, and cannot (yet) be used as hard plastics.   Shrilk is a new bioplastic from Harvard engineers that combines shrimp shells and silk polymers with promising results.

Shrilk can be made in a form that will work in 3D printers --  which handily takes care of my concern about the boom in 3D printing.

Plus, shrilk seems to come in some cool colors!
