To put it simply, this is the fault of the consumer. Without a demand for the outrageously priced items, stores such as "Buddy's" would not be in business. From a business perspective, it is actually quite logical for charging such prices. You take a high risk by selling products to a group of consumers with higher than average failure rates and no cash up front. Per the article, 75% of the products sold by such stores are repo'd or returned, so the store is actually making 75% of the original price - - approximately $1038 on the originally $4150 sofa. Additionally, the family in this article display impulsive actions (adding more products to their already over consuming debt), thus supporting my initial argument that the consumer is who is really at fault.

When Children Are Not Children: A 10-Year Old Murder Suspect Is Charged as An Adult

When Children Are Not Children: A 10-Year Old Murder Suspect Is Charged as An Adult | up2-21 | Scoop.it
To be sure, these are brutal allegations. But let's be clear about one thing: Even if he is charged as an adult, Kurilla is not an adult. He is a ten-year-old child....
up2-21's insight:

When a child is charged as an adult, the state is engaging in a legal fiction -- that commission of a criminal act somehow transforms the actor. With a swish of a legal wand, a child becomes an adult who can be punished as if he were an adult.

Except, of course, in reality. In reality, a child remains a child, no matter what the law says.

This sounds like it is a bit excessive. When I was in middle school and high school, I was in situations that would be considered borderline criminal by todays standards. I was playing touch football during lunch recess in 8th grade and the game turned a bit rough. I ended up getting into a short fist fight with a classmate. We both recieved detention for the fight and that was it. Today, we both could have been arrested for that. It sounds like we are overreacting as a society to these small infractions. I do not agree with a zero tolerance policy for these small crimes that kids are committing at school.
