9 Ways to Improve the Signal to Noise Ratio on Twitter - Brian Solis

9 Ways to Improve the Signal to Noise Ratio on Twitter - Brian Solis | omnia mea mecum fero | Scoop.it

Yes it's a fact... we live in an overloaded information stream! Brian Solis gives us an interesting point of view about this matter. [note mg]

Even at 250 million Tweets per day in addition to the updates across Facebook, Google+, Pinterest, and every other feed that we willfully subscribe to, information overload is in of itself a fallacy. But the feeling the overload of information is very real and a reflection of our inability to pull the levers necessary to decrease noise and improve signal. Doing so, requires some very blatant actions that don’t simply reduce the volume of the information we don’t care to see as often, it requires disconnecting from human beings. Whether we’re severing ties with individuals or those representing an organization we once supported, it’s emotional. It’s an action that carries an element of guilt knowing that at some point, our action will cause an incremental blow to the psyche of the individual we’re unfollowing.

I know…so what right?

Blogging Tips A-Z: G for Goals

Every successful blogger I’ve spoken to had several failed blogs behind them before they finally honed in on their blogging goals and set up a blog that would achieve those goals.

Like most bloggers I set up my first blog as an experiment. I had a vague idea of what I wanted to write about and a secret goal for my blogging.

Well, we all want our blogs to become bestselling books and get made into movies starring Meryl Streep or Julia Roberts don’t we?

But I wasn’t just hoping to kick start my travel writing career and gain worldwide recognition for my writing. I had a few other goals too:

because I’d recently moved from Costa Rica to Australia I wanted to share personal stories so family and friends could follow our adventures; because I’ve lived overseas in eight different countries and travelled to many more I wanted to inspire and inform other women so they could travel more or move overseas too; I wanted my blog to be a fun creative outlet and keep it separate from my web design and web copy writing business.

Can you see a problem here? There are a few of them.

11 Mistakes That Are Killing Your Blog’s Credibility

11 Mistakes That Are Killing Your Blog’s Credibility | omnia mea mecum fero | Scoop.it

If we invest a lot of time and energy in our blog, it's important to do the right things to attract visitors and to keep them more than five seconds on it. Here some great advices to ameliorate, if necessary, the situation. [note Martin Gysler]

Here’s the situation: Your buddy sends you a link to check out, you get to the blog post and after glancing at the layout you immediately question the validity of the blog (and your friend). On occasion I have left a post thinking it was created by some autoblogging process, and then realized it only looked that way and was actually written by a human.

Text ads out of control, color combinations that hurt to look at, no social sharing links (or TOO many!) and images that barely have any connection to the text.

These mistakes can make a visitor run for the proverbial hills. A visitor to your blog is making a decision about your worth within a few seconds, sometimes nanoseconds.

Find out whether you’re making simple but crucial mistakes that turn readers away…

How To Find Royalty Free Images That Haven’t Been Overused

How To Find Royalty Free Images That Haven’t Been Overused | omnia mea mecum fero | Scoop.it

I don't know you, but for me, images are very important. A text without an image, is like a sky without stars. For this reason, I like this post with several ressources, maybe you too! [note Martin Gysler]

“Hey, I’ve seen that image before. Actually, I’ve seen it many times before.”

Images allow you to express what words can’t.

They draw the viewer in and elicit an emotional impact, providing your users with information while confirming that what your selling or promoting is real.

There are many affordable options available to purchase stock photography. This may be a blessing or a curse. Affordability often comes at the cost of originality.

It’s important to consider your ideals and the image’s ability to illustrate a concept perfectly. But consider originality as well. You wouldn’t want to fall into the trap of using cliche imagery because it’s easy and convenient.

25 Reasons Why Google Hates Your Blog

25 Reasons Why Google Hates Your Blog | omnia mea mecum fero | Scoop.it

Sometimes it's to ask what it takes to that Google ranks us on the first page... :-) Here is an article that will give us more information on this subject. [note Martin Gysler]

Your blog is a good read. Everyone says so.

Although “everyone” is really just people you already know. Like your Mum.

So why isn’t your blog being found by other people? The millions and millions of people hungrily consuming blog content out there in the global online space we call the Internet?

The cold, hard truth is that Google hates your blog. And it’s nothing personal. You just don’t have anything that Google wants.

Creating high-quality, relevant content is a must if you want your blog to be noticed by search engines but it’s only part of the picture. If you’re not sure if Google really hates your blog, or whether it’s just ambivalent, then step through these warning signs.

1. You don’t know which keywords your readers are using

The very heart of search engine optimization is understanding what people are searching for online and aligning your own content to those searches.
