A Self-Improvement Secret: Work on Strengths

A Self-Improvement Secret: Work on Strengths | Unriddled Self | Scoop.it

There's no reason to focus so much on weaknesses

David Hagan's insight:

Very interesting perspective that should inform any self-improvement effort. Don't just focus on overcoming weakness (the usual route) - but find opportunities to exercise your strengths in new ways. We sometimes recommend a twist on this - use your strengths as assets in tackling your weaknesses!

Dalai Lama Presents Awards to MBA Students: How Giving Leads to Happiness - Huffington Post

Dalai Lama Presents Awards to MBA Students: How Giving Leads to Happiness - Huffington Post | Unriddled Self | Scoop.it

"... nearly every wisdom tradition teaches that material wealth alone cannot make us happy. Rather, our actions in the world hold great potential for deepening our authentic personal happiness and fulfilment. Current academic research supports this ancient insight."

David Hagan's insight:

A core principle of The Unriddled Self is that true personal evolution must be 'tested' or 'made real' in the world out there - otherwise it remains just an illusion (delusion?) - and there are few better ways of demonstrating personal growth than by the act of 'giving'.

Now ask yourself what are you going to do this week 'out there' to demonstrate personal growth?

How Walking in Nature Changes the Brain

How Walking in Nature Changes the Brain | Unriddled Self | Scoop.it

This article reviews the research done on the effects of being in nature on the brain. To help de-stress your patients it might be worth asking them to spend some time in nature. It is likely to have a positive effect on the brain and help with ruminating too much

Backfire: Why The Pursuit Of Happiness Is Making You Unhappy - Forbes

Be honest. Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered why you’re not happy? You’re not alone. “Life is not what I expected,” a friend told us last week. “My husband and I both have educations. We both have jobs that pay well.
David Hagan's insight:

This is one of the better articles out there ... some research to back up a viewpoint! I've seen a lot of 'pursuit of happiness' articles recently (both for and against) ... and all I can say (from my explorations with NLP) is that "happiness is something you do not pursue"

4 Visualization Techniques That Can Propel Your Success

4 Visualization Techniques That Can Propel Your Success | Unriddled Self | Scoop.it
Seeing your future with the mind's eye is an important step in determining how you will achieve your goals.
David Hagan's insight:

Visualisation is often an essential PART OF a strategy for achieving a desired outcome. And yes, we'd encourage you to play with any one or all of these 4 techniques. However, In our experience visualisation as a tool can't stand on its own. We've had people turn up at our workshops who've spent years visualising 'abundance' - but were the perfect example of the opposite (scarcity). Visualisation techniques need to be part of a strategy that marries them with real-life 'do' techniques. Just a thought :-)

Self-love and life hacks are destroying everything around you

Before I got out of bed this morning, I scrolled through my Instagram feed – which is an endless series of pictures of women doing yoga in idyllic locations. Today’s sage advice, “Open your heart to you” featuring a woman holding the Ustrasana pose (she looks like a capital ‘D’) under what looks like a …
David Hagan's insight:

The Long Read:- Finally. Someone else is saying much of what  we're thinking here at The Unriddled Self. The pursuit an endless series of 'life hacks' is NOT the answer to life's riddles - and in some cases drives us in the opposite direction... away from meaningful and lasting growth that has an impact on those around you.

David Hagan's insight:

The 3 suggestions in this article (become an observer of your own behaviour; put yourself in other peoples shoes; and, learn what psychology has to say about in-built bias) are noteworthy. However, the first two suggestions focus on the 'what' - not the 'how'. These skills are part of the #innergame that I have always found best acquired via one-on-one coaching or workshop settings.
