Too Much Noise Is Toxic

Too Much Noise Is Toxic | Unplug | Scoop.it
Too much noise is toxic. When an unwanted sound classified as noise produced outside of comfortable human perception range, it becomes harmful to human health.
Susan Taylor's insight:

Too much noise is toxic.  Any unwanted sound that feels uncomfortable to you whether due to intensity, content or duration can cause harmful adverse health effects.  This includes physcial stress (which may result in hearing damage) or emotional stress (which may result in mental disturbance).

So how do you avoid and regulate exposure to acoustic noise toxicity?

  • Increase your distance from the source of the noise
  • Use hearing protection devices such as ear plugs
  • Mask existing low intensity noise with white noise
  • Eliminate the source of the noise

Why Mindfulness Should Be Part Of Your Everyday Life

Why Mindfulness Should Be Part Of Your Everyday Life | Unplug | Scoop.it
The areas that are exercised when we practice mindfulness have to do with what we call ''direct experience.'' When we're experiencing something directly, we're fully enveloped by whatever we're doing.
craig daniels's insight:

Mindfulness can be a foreign concept at first. We might ask a mindfulness practioner what the heck are they talking about when they say things like "see reality for the first time" or "seeing with focus".

The practice of mindfulness can seem like a collection of New Age pap meant to exclude people rather than include them. It really is just seeing things without a preconception and without a head full of chatter and noise.
