Erika Landa's curator insight, April 15, 2014 1:08 AM

This story brought tears to my eyes from the first time I saw it broad cast on the news. No matter how many times I read it or how long I go without reading her story it gets me every time. Georgina and her friends protested for equality in their education and their life's. As a undocumented student I have refused till this day to participate in civil disobedience or any rally, because I believe that our voice could be heard other wise. I feel this way, because I am fortunate to live in a state that is less anti-immigration. If i would live in Georgia or Arizona I would not think twice about civil disobedience. It is frustrating that our voice aren't heard, that we are treated like criminals, that we are penalized for something we didn't do. Georgina is a an example to follow and a true leader to the undocumented population.

Erika Landa's curator insight, April 15, 2014 12:48 AM

Wow I am so inspired and touched by what this group of immigrants have done. It is truly admiring that they truly embraced and project the meaning of being undocumented and unafraid. It takes a lot of courage to step out of the shadows and challenge authorities, but it is it takes even more courage to face those US citizens who are against them being here. From the design on the bus to the souls of this people it is all extremely emotional to me. I always knew that there was people that were against immigration, but never did i think that it was to a point where Americans are inhumane and disrespectful. Destroying a bus of dreams is beyond what my heart could ever expect from a country i call home and the people i have been raised with. I just refuse to believe it...

Erika Landa's curator insight, April 15, 2014 12:36 AM

This article makes me realize just how much progress the undocumented student population has made from last year. It's almost a year ago that this article was written, the laws still made it difficult for undocumented students to receive financial aid. Although federal financial aid isn't available to these students yet, there is now a resource for a percentage of this population, the state DREAM ACTS that exist in a few countries. Although this article doesn't go in depth about the fear the students and there families face it does demonstrate that there is a fear that holds them from asking for help and knowing what they are eligible for.
