Please join us on Friday, October 27 at 3:30pm for Professor Germán Labrador Méndez's lecture on the Spanish transition to democracy, countercultural movements and the current crisis of the constitutional model in Spain. Professor Labrador Méndez is associate professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese Languages and Cultures at Princeton University. His most recent book, "Culpables por la literatura. Imaginación política y contracultura en la transición española" [Guilty of Literature. Political Imagination and Counter-Culture in the Spanish Transition to Democracy] (1968-1984) (Siglo XXI, 2017), analyzes countercultural activism in 1970s Spain.

Angélica Liddell Performing Los deseos en Amherst / Desires in Amherst at UMass1 | The UMass Amherst Spanish & Portuguese Program Newsletter | Scoop.it
On April 24 at 4:30 pm in ILC S240, ANGÉLICA LIDDELL, Spain's most prominent performance artist, will present poems from her recent collection Los deseos en Amherst / Desires in Amherst, inspired by the work of Emily Dickinson. This performance will be in Spanish with supertitles in English translation. Professors Regina Galasso (Spanish and Portuguese) and Harley Erdman (Theater) have worked on the collective translation of the poems with a group of UMass students and community members. Liddell has performed at the world's most prestigious theater festivals including Festival d'Avignon and La Biennale di Venezia. In 2012, she received Spain's National Prize for Dramatic Literature. During her U.S. visit, she will also perform in New Jersey and Washington D.C.
