European Framework for the Digital Competence of Educators: #DigCompEdu #ModernEDU | TVT opetuksessa Educational Use of Information and Communications Technology | Scoop.it
As the teaching professions face rapidly changing demands, educators require an increasingly broad and more sophisticated set of competences than before. In particular the ubiquity of digital devices and the duty to help students become digitally competent requires educators to develop their own digital competence.

On International and national level a number of frameworks, self-assessment tools and training programmes have been developed to describe the facets of digital competence for educators and to help them assess their competence, identify their training needs and offer targeted training.

Analysing and clustering these instruments, this report presents a common European Framework for the Digital Competence of Educators (DigCompEdu). DigCompEdu is a scientifically sound background framework which helps to guide policy and can be directly adapted to implement regional and national tools and training programmes. In addition, it provides a common language and approach that will help the dialogue and exchange of best practices across borders.

The DigCompEdu framework is directed towards educators at all levels of education, from early childhood to higher and adult education, including general and vocational training, special needs education, and non-formal learning contexts. It aims to provide a general reference frame for developers of Digital Competence models, i.e. Member States, regional governments, relevant national and regional agencies, educational organisations themselves, and public or private professional training providers.

Mario Muñoz's curator insight, May 28, 3:50 PM
As future teachers, we should take into account that English is a changeable subject. Considering that, we should include all the possible advantages that technology offers. This article shows the high importance of common websites such as Facebook  and Google-docs, which are commonly used by most of students worldwide. Also, the use of Corpora, which is a list of collections about language structures used in real contexts is a great idea that we could promote in our classrooms. This text shows us how we can make students realize that they are also responsable for their learning experience, and it is not necessary in a boring way. It mentions crutial aspects that we can show our learners in order to promote autonomy while learning a new language, in our case English. The ten innovations that have change English teaching are great ways we can use for developing curiosity and motivating our pupils. In fact, it helps to break down the taboo about using technology at classrooms since it explains that technology are great sources for searching authentic material about English usage in real contexts, and it also allows us to keep contant online with people, even native speakers, who can help us to improve our language skills and critical thinking abilities.
Valentina Hernández Hernández's curator insight, August 1, 10:58 AM
The article presents ten innovations that have impacted the most English Teaching. All of them are related with new platforms, Apps, methodologies or techniques that have caused a positive change in the way English teachers carry out their classes. It also mentions the importance of working on lessons that include at least one of the ten things it mentions in the top in order for the students to enjoy the class and motivate.
Alejandra Lopez's curator insight, September 12, 12:41 PM
The way how teachers teach English is being transformed since now we have many tools and resources to adapt our classes to students' needs. Now, the teacher is not the center, the student plays an important role and teachers allow them to be aware of their own process of learning. What is more, teachers are promoting the critical thinking in their students so they do not recieve all the information as passive learners, but they process what they are learning and also they develops curiosity and autonomy to learn more.

I recommended this website for teachers because here you can find different useful material to perform in classes. It is divided into subjects, theme, topics, events, and news; so here you can look for a lot of resources that facilitated the planning of their lesson. Moreover, one of the most important things is that the content is free, and you can assess it without creating an account; additionally, so you can download the teaching ideas and materials. This a great tool that helps teachers to improve the classes and have interesting ideas to work with children and teenagers. This contains several inputs to teach English meaningfully. Besides, it is a demonstration of a proper mean to mainstream the teaching of English with other subjects

The skills that matter in the race between education and technology

The skills that matter in the race between education and technology | TVT opetuksessa Educational Use of Information and Communications Technology | Scoop.it
To improve learning outcomes and prepare students for the world of work, countries must develop a system to determine current learning levels and future learning aims. Genderson's curator insight, March 2, 12:02 AM

The article states that there is a race between technology and education, where technology takes advantage by automating processes, hence creating unemployment and less need of actual human resources. In addition, it also proposes a list of skills that people will need in order to become "immune" to the automation process, among those skills we have critical thinking and social skills, which are indeed crucial and hardly acquired by robots. I believe that we can't deny automation is a threat to humans' works, yet, it can also help our development and contribute to have a better way of life by minimizing the amount of hard work some people have to do. Moreover, technology can be used in education as well, to help us achieve those so necessary skills to survive automation and make ourselves indispensable, ironically defeating technology by using technology.

Julián David Cano's curator insight, March 5, 7:27 PM

This article is very interesting, and it has a lot of aspects to consider. Everybody is facing strong changes in life due to technology, and is has a connection with education. Technology is replacing many things of the 21st century even the way of educating people. That is the reason why  more prepared people are required to succed nowadays. Education has the need of educating people with specific skills that are: problem-solving, self-management, collaboration, team work, leadership, besides others (Patrinos, H. 2017).

Technology should be seen as a useful tool to increase the intellect of people, and not the enemy of education.

Daniela Tabares Restrepo's curator insight, March 22, 4:16 PM
This text helps us to reflect about what is happening with technology. We need to take into account the contribution of technology in our lives nowadays. It is clear that it brings a lot of advantages; it saves time, and money, for example. The problem is that too much advance is also a negative point due to the fact that as it was mentioned some machines are replacing jobs of people who really need them. For that reason, it is necessary to develop skills as much as possible. Skills such as critical- thinking, creativity, flexibility, adaptability, leadership, and so on. Those are skills that machines and technology cannot develop. So, it is time to think about innovation, but for people.
