How To Apply Reflective Practice when Teaching Online

How To Apply Reflective Practice when Teaching Online | Turning Up The H.E.A.T. | Scoop.it
With online teaching, the only person to blame is yourself. That is what being objective means in this industry. An objective and reflective practitioner blames only himself or herself. If there is a problem, you need to consider ways to avoid it in the future by changing what you do and say, as well as how you act.

Developing and Implimenting Competency-based ICT Training for Teachers

Developing and Implimenting Competency-based ICT Training for Teachers | Turning Up The H.E.A.T. | Scoop.it
In this highly connected and rapidly changing world, there is no doubt that teachers play a key role in successfully integrating ICT into education. Realizing the importance of teachers’ capacity to do this, governments, teacher education institutions, the private sector, and NGOs alike provide training opportunities – ranging from the skills needed to use a particular software, to integrating educational technologies, to innovating teaching to promote 21st century skills. However, more often than not, teachers’ actual use of ICT in the classroom is reported as incremental, merely reinforcing traditional teacher-centred approaches by using slides and drill-and-practice exercises.

Why Is Learning So Hard?

Why Is Learning So Hard? | Turning Up The H.E.A.T. | Scoop.it

Have you ever tried really, really hard to learn something new, but it seemed like the harder you tried, the more difficult it was to learn?

The good news is that it probably wasn't your imagination: you might have actually been trying too hard. As backwards as it sounds, a new study confirms that "over thinking" a problem can make it harder to solve.

The LoTi Guy Speaks: Quantifying Success at the End of the Year

The LoTi Guy Speaks: Quantifying Success at the End of the Year | Turning Up The H.E.A.T. | Scoop.it
Our action research has shown that the best way to prepare students for intensive, multi-dimensional state assessments (e.g., PARCC, Smarter Balanced, PSSA, STAAR) is providing challenging and thoughtful instruction on a daily basis that mirrors the rigor found on many state assessments. As an ex-college football jock, let me offer a fundamental football cliché as a question… Does the physicality of our daily operational curriculum mirror the physicality of the state assessment in terms of cognitive complexity and real-world connections?
