Read why massive open online courses, social user interfaces and mobility are transforming stodgy learning managements systems, according to Bersin by Deloitte. Summarizing MOOCs, Bersin said they are very good for technical education today and [for] beginning to provide content on professional development and leadership. "Very much worth your time to experiment," he said. "I think employees will find this to be a great value add; a sort of engagement tool for your organization."

The inaugural edition of the OECD Skills Outlook  is devoted to reporting the results of the first round of the Survey of Adult Skills, a product of the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC). The survey provides a rich source of data on adults’ proficiency in literacy, numeracy and problem solving in technology-rich environments – the key information-processing skills that are invaluable in 21st-century economies – and in various “generic” skills, such as co-operation, communication, and organising one’s time.

Certifying and Valuing Digital Badges is an important area to consider. Anyone can visit Credly and begin developing digital badges, and this raises the question of validity. Smartly, though, Credly will certify an “issuer” (an individual or institution offering the badge) after a thorough vetting process and an annual fee of $150. This extra layer of authentication is highly recommended.
