Bypasss User-Mode Hooks

Bypasss User-Mode Hooks | travelling islamic2018 | Scoop.it

User-mode hooks are unreliable and there are tons of ways to bypass them, for example, makin loads ntdll from the %temp% directory and bypasses all hooks from original ntdll, but it loads DLL, so it’s noisy. What about using ntdll level functions? it’s better than using KernelBase and other higher level DLLs but still easy to hook.

We need "Empathy Studies" - "On Duke University’s campus, several opportunities lend themselves to empathy-building"

We need "Empathy Studies" - "On Duke University’s campus, several opportunities lend themselves to empathy-building" | travelling islamic2018 | Scoop.it

Perhaps a new requirement in Empathy Studies would further complicate the now-stagnant talks on Trinity College curriculum reform.  But the idea of such a requirement raises questions on how our university environment is cultivating and instilling empathy, a critical value we should all seek to enhance, even in non-liberal arts settings.

The Pratt School of Engineering seeks to prepare students for success in engineering disciplines. Bridges they will construct and softwares they will develop should ultimately serve the purpose of bringing individuals together and improving quality of life. Empathy is critical for both.

The few years during which students are able to live with and learn from peers in a resource-rich, higher-educational setting, are dense with opportunity. Priorities set by curriculums and resources presented play an indubitable role in shaping the lives of today’s young people who are afforded the opportunity to higher education. These future leaders in diverse fields, industries and disciplines must embrace empathy-building and empathetic living, amidst the volatility of our world.

On Duke University’s campus, several opportunities lend themselves to empathy-building. Service-learning classes and DukeEngage experiences present an opportunity for students to put themselves in others’ shoes, if they are intentional.

Introducing Ardublockly for Arduino

Introducing Ardublockly for Arduino | travelling islamic2018 | Scoop.it
The humble Arduino has powered many projects across the globe. Created in the early 2000s, the Arduino’s goal was to provide a cheap development platform for artists to experiment with electronics. For many years the Arduino set the bar for others to beat, and it wasn’t until the rise of the Raspberry Pi in 2012 that we saw competition that would offer an alternative experience for those new to code.

Farewell and Beware of the PharmaGovernment Complex!

Farewell and Beware of the PharmaGovernment Complex! | travelling islamic2018 | Scoop.it

It's my 71st birthday and I decided it's a good time for me to move on to a new role. Unbelievable, right? John "PharmaGuy" Mack is seventy-one years old!

Also unbelievable is that I am shuttering my pharmaceutical online publishing business after 16 years of continuous operation! There will be no more Pharma Industry News Update emails, no more PharmaGuy Insights on Scoop.it, and no new Pharma Marketing Blog posts. There will still be  tweets from @pharmaguy, but eventually even that will end.

Although one door has closed, another door has opened for me as a Newtown Township, PA Supervisor. Yes, I am now a “politician!” I won the local election in November, 2017. In fact, I received more votes than any other candidate for local office (read about it here: “Mack Clobbers Couch!”).

These days it is especially important that citizens get reliable information from their leaders and get more involved in local government. That is my goal as well as “speaking truth to power,” which is what I have done in the pharmaceutical sector. Now I will be known as SupervisorGuy!

I have a lot to learn about my local township and how to govern. I feel energized like I did when I started writing about the drug industry. It will take all my effort to be successful in this endeavor and I simply won't have the time nor the energy to keep up with the drug industry.

PharmaGovernment Complex
Before I go, however, I’d like to say one or two words about what I call the “PharmaGovernment Complex,” which is the collusion between the pharmaceutical industry, lawmakers, and government agencies.

In case any of you are interested in following my new career as a Township Supervisor, you can catch me “speaking truth to power” online:

Warm Regards,
PharmaGuy

Dear John, @Pharmaguy

Pharma will never be the same again as you now shutter your on line activities, information, reflection, critique and most of all your commitment to the industry! I guess we need to wonder how 'we' or who might (be able) to fill in the gap you leave to the market, governments, companies and individuals, and patients! Thanks for all of your pundit information, knowledge and thoughts! We will surely miss you!

Cheerz to you,

Rob

P.S. What about your Hawaian shirt now?

Stephen's Web ~ Student learning with permissive and restrictive cell phone policies: A classroom experiment

Stephen's Web ~ Student learning with permissive and restrictive cell phone policies: A classroom experiment | travelling islamic2018 | Scoop.it
t's hard to know what conclusions you can draw from a study of 31 students in a Midwestern university class, but this study (13 page PDF) tries. According to the authors, banning cellphones did not improve the students' results in the course. More interestingly, banning cellsphones was associated with higher evaluation scores for the instructor. Here's the rest of January's ijSOTL filled with studies of similar scope.

Why I founded an empathy museum

Why I founded an empathy museum | travelling islamic2018 | Scoop.it
I founded the Empathy Museum for a very specific reason: to create inspiring artworks that spark a public conversation about the power of empath,y not just to transform personal life but to bridge social divides. In a world of growing inequalities and ‘us versus them’ xenophobia, and where we are increasingly trapped in narrow social media silos that reinforce our beliefs and ideas, there is more need than ever to escape the straitjacket of our own viewpoints and experiences.

Empathy – the imaginative capacity to step into the shoes of another person and look at the world from their perspective – is a deep psychological trait wired into our brains. Whereas sympathy is an emotional response where you just feel sorry for someone, empathy is about really understanding where they are coming from, and having this guide your actions.
