Pavel Gospodinov's insight:

SAMPLE PHOTO TOUR IN THE EASTERN AND WESTERN RHODOPES (BULGARIA); HALKIDIKI (GREECE)

This trip will begin in Sofia, Bulgaria; we will visit Dimitrovgrad for sessions of urban photography dedicated to socialist realism in Bulgarian architecture. We will travel through the Eastern Rhodopes - one of the most photogenic regions in Bulgaria - and see the Arda and Byala River valleys as well as picturesque villages in the region. We will pass through Madzharovo and Ivailovgrad.

We will visit the Zlatograd Ethnographic Complex on our way to Greece. We will have a session of urban photography in Kavala, Greece, before departing for Halkidiki, and more specifically Sithonia, the most scenic of the three branches of this fantastic peninsula. We will spend two beautiful days here, giving us time not only to take pictures, but to sunbathe and swim along the Aegean Sea. On our return trip to Sofia we will visit the villages of

Leshten and Kovachevitsa, both architectural reserves left over from Bulgaria's past. Landscape (seaside and mountain), ethnographic and cultural photography.

PHOTO JOURNEY INTO THE PAST: SOCIALIST REALISM | BULGARIA AND THE BALKANS PHOTO WALKS AND TOURS

PHOTO JOURNEY INTO THE PAST: SOCIALIST REALISM | BULGARIA AND THE BALKANS PHOTO WALKS AND TOURS | PAVEL GOSPODINOV PHOTOGRAPHY | Scoop.it
Pavel Gospodinov's insight:

SAMPLE PROGRAM OF A PHOTO JOURNEY INTO THE PAST: SOCIALIST REALISM

The first day of this unforgettable photographic journey will be dedicated to Bulgaria's capital, Sofia. We will take pictures of the examples of monumental Stalinist architecture in the center, the women's market and the industrial district around the train station. We will visit the nearby industrial towns of Pernik and Radomir, an openair museum with an exposition of massive industrial buildings – strange “monuments” to Bulgaria's socialist industrialism of 20 years ago. We will continue to Dimitrovgrad, the epitome of socialist realism in Bulgaria. We will enter the Eastern Rhodopes, here focusing on the abandoned villages situated along the Byala River. We will continue to the Western Rhodopes and Ardino, the abandoned village of Dyadovtsi and Devil's Bridge, one of the most photogenic places in the Rhodopes. Further along, we will continue to Shiroka Luka, an architectural reserve, and the abandoned village of Kukuvitsa. We will stop by Mugla and the empty village of Chamla. Following that will be the village of Krushevo with its beautiful panoramas of four mountains and the abandoned village of Debren. We will conclude this journey in the authentic villages of Leshten, Gorno Dryanovo and Kovachevitsa.

THE SIWA FESTIVAL IN EGYPT | NOMADS CLUB | PAVEL GOSPODINOV PHOTOGRAPHY | Scoop.it
Pavel Gospodinov's insight:

During the official lunch, which is the main event of the Siwa Festival in the oasis of Siwa in the Western Egyptian desert, no one is allowed to touch the food until permission is granted. Anyone who attempts to eat beforehand will find himself in trouble with the Shiekh. Once everyone has been served, the head cook calls out, “Basmala!” (“In the name of God!”), from the top of the mountain, after which everyone begins eating. Everyone present, both rich and poor, young and old, eat at the same time and from the same dishes. This symbolizes the unity and equality of all people before God.

Pavel Gospodinov's insight:

The beach is used mostly by the guests of the Black Sea coastal resort - Complex of Kamchia. The place is perfect for seascape photography during all seasons.

THE TRADITIONAL BANGLA WOODEN SHIPS | NOMADS CLUB

THE TRADITIONAL BANGLA WOODEN SHIPS | NOMADS CLUB | PAVEL GOSPODINOV PHOTOGRAPHY | Scoop.it
Pavel Gospodinov's insight:

The traditional bangladeshi wooden ships are still in use, and their “parking places” are usually on the muddy banks of the larger rivers or in special river ports. The feeling of traveling back in time is particularly tangible at those places. The feeling that I’m in a middle of a decor of movie about pirates and adventures kept recurring. This is a magnificent place for pictures, and if you have enough time, you could get in a ship   to take a look at it and chat with fishermen. Most of them come from a low caste of Hindus or Bengalis, and the work conditions are primitive and dangerous. However, they know a lot about the fish, the fishing and the sea… they probably know everything about that.

KAMALAPUR TRAIN STATION IN DHAKA BANGLADESH | NOMADS CLUB

KAMALAPUR TRAIN STATION IN DHAKA BANGLADESH | NOMADS CLUB | PAVEL GOSPODINOV PHOTOGRAPHY | Scoop.it
Pavel Gospodinov's insight:

To use a train in Bangladesh is a rare pleasure, which I had the chance to experience for a few times. The images of the regional Bangladesh overcrowded trains, with people hanging from windows and roofs are iconic. Views like that one could be seen only in certain periods of the year, during holidays, when everybody in Bangladesh is willing to travel. My trip happened in a relatively calm period, when even the central railway station - Kamalapur Railway Station in Dhaka is not that crowed place.

PHOTO ESSAYS INCLUDED IN THE PHOTO BOOK ABOUT BANGLADESH | PAVEL GOSPODINOV PHOTOGRAPHY | PAVEL GOSPODINOV PHOTOGRAPHY | Scoop.it
Pavel Gospodinov's insight:

The photo essays, included in the Photo-book about Bangladesh, have a documentary and cognitive nature and are based upon one of my travel projects made in May 2013 to Bangladesh. This book provides an overview of the places I consider most interesting and my general impressions.  I have included some statistics and quotes from verified sources, but the essays are not the result of detailed research and do not attempt to provide any solutions to the country’s fundamental problems that I observed, or occasionally comment upon, such as child labour, environment pollution and other issues.

Pavel Gospodinov's insight:

SAMPLE PHOTO TOUR - THE BEST OF BULGARIA

Bulgaria has plenty of exceptional sights, which offer you beneficial conditions for landscape/seascape, ethno/people and street photography. Bulgaria offers as well opportunities for shooting remains of the communist regime in Bulgaria, insisting on their integration and relation with the modern urban landscape of Bulgaria towns and villages, including Socialist industrial landscapes,  Socialist collective housing construction and objects representing Socialist realism. In most of the cases, these are objects, which might be seen and shot solely in Bulgaria, which turns this photo workshop/safari unique.

We will begin this photo excursion in Bulgaria's capital, Sofia. We will shoot the Eastern Rhodopes in the region of Madzharovo and the meanderings of the Arda River, pass through Ivailovgrad and the wild outskirts of Bulgaria: the Byala River valley and the villages of Odrintsi and Mandritsa as well as the cult villages of Dolno Lukovo and Gorno Lukovo. We will cross through the heart of the Rhodopes and continue to one of the largest outdoor museums, in Zlatograd. We will take photos in the unofficial capital of the Rhodopes, Smolyan, as well as the lovely, old village of Shiroka Luka.  We will be sure not miss one of the most noteworthy natural phenomena in the Rhodopes, the Trigrad Gorge. A PHOTO JOURNEY BACK IN TIME: WILD AND FORGOTTEN BULGARIA

The focus on this photography trip will be on the littleknown spots in Bulgaria that aren't shown in tourist guidebooks, and some not even on maps. This is the unfamiliar and forgotten Bulgaria where time stands still, bearing the remains of glorious but forever lost ages gone by.

PHOTO TRIP: A TASTE OF BULGARIA, OR THAT BY WHICH WE WILL REMEMBER THIS COUNTRY

We will start this trip dedicated to the authentic Bulgaria in its capital, Sofia. We will devote a day to the old Stalinist monumental architecture in the center, the women's market and the industrial district around the train station (for fans of this type of photography). We will continue to a former capital of Bulgaria, Veliko Turnovo, an ancient and enchanting city with many churches and palaces, as befits the old center of a former kingdom. We will pass through Gabrovo and Tryavna; we will then cross Shipka Pass. We will spend a night and part of a day in the epitome of a socialist city, Dimitrovgrad. We will head south to the Eastern Rhodopes and the meanders of the Arda River. We will then continue even further south to the meanders of the Byala River and the nearby picturesque villages. Afterwards we will turn west to the heart of the Western Rhodopes, Ardino, the abandoned village of Dyadovtsi and the Devil's Bridge. We will take pictures of the Shiroka Luka architectural reserve and the little villages around it. On our way to the ancient city of Plovdiv we will visit the Wondrous Bridges, a graceful natural phenomenon. We will spend a day or two in Plovdiv and then return to Sofia.
