Translation Tribulations: Complex dictionaries in memoQ LiveDocs (by Kevin Lossner)

Translation Tribulations: Complex dictionaries in memoQ LiveDocs (by Kevin Lossner) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it

How to use raw terminology resources in memoQ translation projects if they cannot be imported into a termbase.

Stanislav Okhvat's insight:

Kevin Lossner explains how LiveDocs corpora in memoQ can be used to consult (via concordance searches) raw terminology resources that are not suitable for being imported into a termbase. This approach can be used with single-language or multi-language terminology references found on the web, in the form of PDFs, HTML pages (converted to Word documents or text files), etc.

AdaptiveMT… what’s the score? AdaptiveMT machine translation engine in SDL Trados Studio 2017 (by Paul Filkin) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it
AdaptiveMT was released with Studio 2017 introducing the ability for users to adapt the SDL Language Cloud machine translation with their own preferred style on the fly.  Potentially this is a really powerful feature since it means that over time you should be able to improve the results you see from your SDL Language Cloud…
Stanislav Okhvat's insight:
Paul Filkin explains how to use AdaptiveMT adaptive machine translation provider in SDL Trados Studio 2017, what is included in the free usage plan, how to create a customized MT engine, how to train the engine based on your previous projects, and how to measure the impact of AdaptiveMT on the amount of post-editing work required.

More Trados Top Tips: Reverse Filter (by Claire Cox): new Community Advanced Display Filter and its useful features

More Trados Top Tips: Reverse Filter (by Claire Cox): new Community Advanced Display Filter and its useful features | Translator Tools | Scoop.it

Back in October of last year, I wrote about the revelation I’d experienced when discovering the Advanced Display Filter in Studio 2017. I wanted to add a brief postscript to that entry, as SDL have brought out a new edition of the display filter, this time called the Community Advanced Display Filter, which you can download, free of charge, as an app from the SDL AppStore...

Stanislav Okhvat's insight:
Claire Cox talks about the Community Advanced Display Filter (a new OpenExchange app for SDL Trados Studio), focusing on a very useful feature of this new filter – the ability to reverse the previous filter, showing the segments which were hidden by the previous filter and hiding the segments which were previously visible. This is very useful for working with projects that have a lot of repetitions.

TransTools 3.16: new option to remove extra tags from Microsoft Word documents

TransTools 3.16: new option to remove extra tags from Microsoft Word documents | Translator Tools | Scoop.it

TransTools v.3.16 has been released.

The new version can remove additional tags in Word documents that contain text written with “symbol fonts” such as Symbol, Wingdings, etc. Symbols from such fonts are similar to images and so they are displayed as tags in CAT tools, making them difficult to understand and use in the translated text. The new option finds the majority of symbols from standard symbol fonts and replaces them with readable characters from standard fonts, reducing the number of tags and improving readability in your CAT tool.

The latest version also contains other tag cleaning features introduced in TransTools v.3.15 (see http://www.translatortools.net/news/features_v3.15.html).

For more information, go to http://www.translatortools.net/installer-history.html#v.3.16 ;

GT4T: the right approach to MT and beyond (by Dallas Cao via The Open Mic) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it
GT4T originally comes from the initial for Google Translate for Translators. Can you believe it? GT4T has been around for 8 years and counting. When the first version was out, no CAT tools integrated MT yet. I originally made GT4T for myself, so fundamentally GT4T is whatever is useful to me myself, an overworked translator. …

Dallas Cao, the developer behind GT4T machine translation tool, talks about GT4T and how it can help a translator.

How to translate Memsource files in memoQ the right way (by Marek Pawelec)

How to translate Memsource files in memoQ the right way (by Marek Pawelec) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it
When it comes to online CAT tools I personally consider Memsource as one of the better ones – it’s reasonably fast, offers decent functionality and usability... Still, it’s not the same as memoQ when it comes to comfort and features, so whenever possible, I process Memsource files in memoQ. Unfortunately, things like match rate and translation status are not imported by default and need some tinkering. I have created two templates, that can be used to import Memsource files in a bit more comfortable way...
Stanislav Okhvat's insight:
Marek Pawelec provides very useful step-by-step instructions how to import Memsource XLIFF (MXLIFF) files into memoQ in order to preserve segment match rates, locked status, "translated" status and show tags correctly. The tutorial includes import filter and project template configurations to achieve this.

So simple… yet so useful! Bilingual XML Filetype and Cleanup Tasks OpenExchange applications for SDL Trados Studio (by Paul Filkin, SDL) | Translator Tools | Scoop.it

I'm certainly no expert on knots, but I do like them... The image on the left is actually a Carrick Bend and it’s another one I like… simple to use and yet brilliant for joining two ropes together. I used this as the image for my article simply because it’s a very loose introduction to the idea of how every new app on the SDL AppStore seems to provide another opportunity to string apps together and deal with problems that would be tricky with Studio alone. I love that!

Stanislav Okhvat's insight:
Paul Filkin describes how two simple OpenExchange applications for SDL Trados Studio, Bilingual XML Filetype and Cleanup Tasks, can be used together to translate a multilingual XML file with placeholders as part of a localization process.
