OK -- we all know that business storytelling can deliver impressive results. Yet it's hard to find hard numbers to support our experience. That's why I'm always on the hunt for quantified results. And we've got it here.

The author, Alex Turnbull, shares his story of doing A/B testing with a blog post. One test lead with a story, the other one did not.

Read about how it happened, the 300% increase in readers of the post with a story, and his storytelling advice for how to achieve the same results for yourself. Yahoo!

I love reading such great tips on incorporating stories - but my take is definitely how I am going to segue the advice into my workshop setting. I'm positive adding stories will help my students remember the all-important parts of what they're learning because of the opportunity I have to provide frames of reference that will make the information "real!"

Gain some small wins, so your team will be prepared to embrace bigger wins down the road. They'll remember how you involved them in the past, and utilized their ideas. They'll more than  likely stay connective and supportive.

Dr. Karen Dietz's curator insight, February 16, 2015 1:51 PM

Colleague Annette Simmons, author of several ground breaking books on business storytelling, has written this terrific post helping anyone get unstuck about their stories.

This article goes hand-in-hand with another post I curated last week from colleague Shawn Callahan on spotting stories.

What I love about this post is how Simmons starts off -- with the hidden fear we all have about storytelling. She then gives clear directions for finding your stories that will get you over that hump.

Hey, even I freeze up when someone out of the blue asks, "So tell me one of your stories". I like all of Simmon's 4 buckets and use them to break up that frozen place I sometimes find myself in.

Enjoy this post and get story-ing!

How to Build Trust in Schools

How to Build Trust in Schools | Training & Learning | Scoop.it

Instead of incapacitating people's ability to problem-solve or try new ideas -- which is what fear does to us -- research on school reform strongly suggests that policy-makers should be encouraging school leaders to take a more humane approach. In their seminal 2002 study on the reform efforts of 12 Chicago public schools, authors Anthony Bryk and Barbara Schneider found that enabling positive social relationships between the adults was the key to successful school improvement -- and that trust was at the heart of those relationships.

The inclusion of Parker Palmer's work is important. It is hard work, but it provides a foundation upon which we share and trust can grow. Trust does not happen because a colleague or School manager says, "Trust me." It is earned and takes time.

The more time you spend working in a field, the better you get at it, and the smarter you seem to those with less experience. Therefore, when you’re young, don’t get freaked out, and when you’re older, don’t get too impressed with yourself.
