Beautiful Sirens: The Lure of Florida’s Manatees and the Reality of Eco-Tourism

Beautiful Sirens: The Lure of Florida’s Manatees and the Reality of Eco-Tourism | Tourism Social Media | Scoop.it

Manatees are almost mythical, belonging to the order Sirenia, and named for the alluring sirens of the sea that ancient sailors thought them to be. These endangered ‘sea cows’ are big, gentle, shallow-water grazers found in some of the most beautiful and still-pristine waters of Florida.

Today, the Three Sisters Spring waterways in Crystal River (Citrus County) are a prime example of an area that attracts manatees to its warmer waters and, in turn, tourists for its manatees.
