Failure might be a good thing for Google Glass (Wired UK)

Failure might be a good thing for Google Glass (Wired UK) | Tourism | Scoop.it

Today, for one day only, Google Glass goes on sale to everyone in the US. Everyone, that is, with an extra $1,500 (£900) to spare and a desire to become a guinea pig in a hotly contested social experiment. It's not a stretch to say that this little test, the first that hasn't been geared to the already converted, could steer what Google ultimately decides to do with the entire project.

Until today, Google's headwear has only been available in limited release through its Glass Explorer program. Making Glass widely available has ginned up predictable publicity that may give the impression of pent-up demand for Glass. But that demand is far from certain. People love to hate on Glass at least as much as users claim to love it.

Google has invented a pair of contact lenses that come with a tiny in-built camera

Earlier this year, Wired.co.uk wrote about Google's invention of a smart contact lens that could monitor blood glucose levels through tear fluid. Now, the tech giant has invented another pair of lenses with an in-built camera.

The lenses were developed in the Google X lab and were featured in a patent filing dating from 2012, which was recently published by the US Patent and Trademark Office. The patent filing features a contact lens that includes an embedded circuit, camera and sensor. The control circuit could be linked wirelessly or via a wire to the camera and sensor. The sensor could be a light sensor, pressure sensor, temperature sensor or electrical field sensor, which may allow for people to gain a "sixth sense" of sorts.

Excellent rant by Robert Scoble on Google Glass. That product is already getting old without having even been launched and lack of CEO support is definitely worrying. I've been skeptical on this project since I first heard of it 2 years ago: primarily because I had doubts about Google being the right company to bring that change.

As a gadget nerd, I's still love to be proven wrong though.

Emmanuel HAVET's curator insight, March 21, 2014 11:32 AM

Quelle plateforme sociale choisir ?

Why Your Business Needs A Social Media Presence - Two infographics - WordPress Hosting SEO Cloud

Why Your Business Needs A Social Media Presence - Two infographics - WordPress Hosting SEO Cloud | Tourism | Scoop.it

Why Your Business Needs A Business Social Media Presence. Online consumers are more likely to buy things from brands they know or have followed through social media for some time.

An infographic published by Mr. Youth, a word of mouth marketing firm, polled 4500 adults to uncover the impact of social media on purchases. They discovered that social media not only influences brand reputation and PR, but often can lead directly to a sale.

Over 90% of respondents either received or made recommendations to friends and families on Facebook. 65% of these social recommendations directly led to a purchase. On top of that, 80% of those who received a response to a social media post by a brand made a purchase as a result of that interaction.

With numbers as striking you’d think businesses would be quick to comprehend. Yet according to the study, brands only respond to half of their social media posts, divided almost equally between Facebook and Twitter. The full report will be available in two weeks....

Pallab Kakoti's curator insight, March 14, 2014 8:19 AM

#SocialMedia marketing is the lifeline for brands looking to target the online audience for anything from product promos, launch campaigns & many more parallels by leveraging objective, reach & impact. The key is in the analysis to determine the campaign ROI and keeping these dynamics in mind, a business website is the digital connection that businesses must incorporate to nullify reservations about a product purchase by referring to online reviews, product demos, customer experiences and so on.

Work of Mouth marketing is still one of the most influential catalyst that incites intent to check out a new product or brand based on references. A business website is the connection required to establish  a working relationship between the buyer & the seller. By integrating #social sharing icons & buttons, the process to recommend services to friends & family becomes much easier and simpler to complete. This irrevocably creates the influence of digital marketing & social media marketing for brands with instant real time reach & interaction with buyers & random online visitors across the fabric of the web.

Attempt at going mainstream. But still awkward?

Yihan She's curator insight, March 26, 2014 10:47 PM

Google glass can obviously give us a new way of life. Like others wearable device, Google glass uses technology to help us to deal with working and daily life information easier, although it is a little gross than a normal glass currently.

Tony Curmudgeon O'seland's curator insight, March 27, 2014 12:40 PM

This makes me wonder if the digitization of graphic literature will further degrade the field.  Physical ownership of graphic literature has become a vague concept these days, and if I read the buyers agreements on digital copies, you don't ever actually own the copy, you get to view it a set number of times.  While these glasses may make being a Hipster seem cool, do they actually serve a purpose for those who read, or are they just another gimmick to sell tech?
