Still running Windows XP? That's the way Bill Gates planned it

Still running Windows XP? That's the way Bill Gates planned it | Technically Thinking | Scoop.it
Bill Gates's vision was of 'a computer on every desk, each one running Microsoft software'. Now the true cost is emerging, writes John Naughton
Robert Khaili Allen's insight:

The companies and governments still running XP are prime examples of mismanaged and poorly-organized institutions. I wonder how many of them had IT folks screaming to the rafters that something needed to be done long before deadlines, but some executive didn't see the point and denied any action.

Well now it's costing them additionals funds, resources and possibly jeopardizing their security of their data. Most importantly this type of foolhardy thinking is also putting our shared and personal information to risk as well.

Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit

Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit | Technically Thinking | Scoop.it
ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. (May 28, 2013) -- Army researchers are responding to a request from the U.S. Special Operations Command for technologies to help develop a revolutionary Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit. The Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit, or TALOS, is an advanced infantry uniform that promises to provide superhuman strength with greater ballistic protection. Using wide-area networking and on-board computers, operators will have more situational awareness of the action around them and of their own bodies. The U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command, known as RDECOM, is submitting TALOS proposals in response to the May 15 2013 request. "There is no one industry that can build it," said SOCOM Senior Enlisted Advisor Command Sgt. Maj. Chris Faris during a panel discussion at a conference at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., recently, reported Defense Media Network.
