Boss of the Tammany Hall political machine in New York City, convicted of forgery and larceny in 1873 and died in jail in 1878. This was one of the political cartoons created by Thomas Nast in which helped expose Tweed to the public by depicting him as a thief and a dictator who manipulated New York City politics for his own benefit.

The act banned the sale of products from any factory, shop, or cannery that employed children under the age of 14, from any mine that employed children under the age of 16, and from any facility that had children under the age of 16 work at night or for more than 8 hours during the day.

Ellis Island opened in 1892 as a federal immigration station.This website exhibits the experiences these immigrants had to go trough in order to enter America. This shows how i am ashamed of the American government for doing this as these immigrants were treated poorly and the process was long and caused many hardships.

But when rebel leader Emilio Aguinaldo issued a proclamation declaring the Philippines a republic, the US ignored him. Mounting tensions finally erupted into a war.

In 1904 and 1905, President Theodore Roosevelt expanded the Monroe Doctrine. The corollary stated that not only were the nations of the Western Hemisphere not open to colonization by European powers, but that the United States had the responsibility to preserve order and protect life and property in those countries.

This poster demonstrates The Dawes Severalty Act which was an 1887 law that divided reservation land into private family plots. Each Native American family received a plot usually 160 acres.  The purpose of the Dawes Act was mostly to protect Indian property rights but in many instances the results were vastly different. The land was not suitable for farming and two thirds of the 138 million acres of Indian land wound up in the hands of whites. This is why i am ashamed of the American government for passing the act.
