Liker on Lean Leadership | better-operations.com | TLS - TOC, Lean & Six Sigma | Scoop.it
Why do most firms fail in their lean transformations? Because they have not understood the power of lean leadership, says Professor Jeffrey Liker. I spent the last two days together with the Norwegian aluminum producer Hydro ASA, listening to and learning from Liker. Here is a brief reflection on the essentials of lean leadership.

"Epiphanized" the TLS bestselling novel & textbook - Interview of co-author Bob Sproull by Clarke Ching /TOC Thinkers | TLS - TOC, Lean & Six Sigma | Scoop.it

[Bob sproull says] The reason I felt compelled to write this new book is because I think we (my co-author Bruce Nelson and I) have a different kind of message to bring forward.  This book is loosely based on both of our travels in the TOC world, both the positive and negative parts of our journeys.  […]  We tried to create a storyline that readers will relate to and to demonstrate just how quickly positive results can happen when TOC is used correctly....especially when it is integrated with Lean and Six Sigma.  In my opinion, the path to profitability is not through removing waste and variation in every step of the process and I wanted to get this message out.  …

TLS is the most profitable management method. It takes:
+ proper FOCUS of managerial attention from ToC
+ clean up and removing all unnecessary tasks from Lean
+ stabilization of the entire system with SixSigma
Lets take this way together!

Culture is King at Toyota Forklifts by Brett Wood | Industry Week

Culture is King at Toyota Forklifts by Brett Wood | Industry Week | TLS - TOC, Lean & Six Sigma | Scoop.it

How were you first introduced to the Toyota Production System and the concepts of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement? Were you aware of them before you joined Toyota?
Advertising, mouse over for audio

[Brett Wood CEO of forklift manufacturer Toyota Material Handling North America (TMHNA)]: I’ve been at Toyota for almost 29 years, and you’re the first person who’s ever asked me that. The answer is no, I wasn’t a lean guy, but to stretch the thought process behind the question, in terms of continuous improvement, yes.

There’s a story behind it. My father was a mechanical engineer at Kodak in Rochester, NY. When you grow up in a house where there’s an engineering mind and thought process, you’re always fixing something as opposed to hiring somebody to fix something, even when you probably should’ve hired someone. So that’s how my father was and that’s how I am. If you can fix it, fix it. That kind of thought process was ingrained in me at an early age.

Toyota Standard Work – Part 1: Production Capacity | AllAboutLean.com

Toyota Standard Work – Part 1: Production Capacity | AllAboutLean.com | TLS - TOC, Lean & Six Sigma | Scoop.it

Toyota is excellent with their standardized work. They use a series of worksheets to simplify the creation of these standards.  These are sometimes also know as the “famous 3 slips”. The first one is a production capacity sheet to define what capacity you have available. The second one is a standardized work combination table to define when the operator is doing what. The third one is a standard work layout sheet to help with the layout and arrangement of the machines. While there are many different ways of doing this, I like the Toyota approach. Since this is a larger topic, I’ve broken it into multiple blog posts. Lets start with the Production Capacity sheet.

DevOps explained using ToC Logical Thinking Process | Post by Evgeny Zislis

DevOps explained using ToC Logical Thinking Process | Post by Evgeny Zislis | TLS - TOC, Lean & Six Sigma | Scoop.it

[...] adopting “DevOps” as a buzzword is likely to improve very little in an organization. What is crucial for great results is adopting and understanding the required new policies while forcibly moving away from previous ways of doing things.

What exactly are the new policies and practices that need to be adopted? This post attempts to cover some of the more essential items.

The graphical representation above shows the Critical Success Factors and their Necessary conditions to make Excellent IT happen — which we assume leads to excellent competitiveness in the marketplace. The image in the header is a “Goal Tree”, an example of the Logical Thinking Processes, which are also part of the Theory of Constraints body of knowledge.

Cycle Time, Inventory, and The Theory of Constraints - Webinar by William A. Levinson - July 11th 2018

Cycle Time, Inventory, and The Theory of Constraints - Webinar by William A. Levinson - July 11th 2018 | TLS - TOC, Lean & Six Sigma | Scoop.it
Inventory is one of the Toyota Production System's Seven Wastes, and it is directly proportional to cycle time; the amount of time necessary for a customer order to go through a manufacturing (or service) process. The Theory of Constraints explains why most cycle time is waste in most processes. First, no process can operate more rapidly than its constraint or capacity-constraining resource (CCR). Second, favorable variation in processing times does not offset unfavorable variation because time lost at the constraint is lost forever. (This also explains traffic jams that appear out of nowhere during rush hour.) This webinar will explain the Theory of Constraints and also provide attendees with production control methods to reduce inventory and cycle time enormously.

Critical Chain Project Management (TOC) Overview in 20 minutes

Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM) is the component of the Theory Of Constraints (TOC) that deals with project management; both single projects and project portfolios. He explains when planning how to define "focussed task durations" and project buffers. He describes the dynamic execution logic based on the fever chart. He also emphasizes the importance of the powerful process of on-going improvement that is enabled by CCPM. Philip Marris presented an overview of Critical Chain Project Management during the 38th TOCPA (Theory Of Constraints Practitioners Alliance) International conference in Paris.

Using videos to improve operations - A series of 8 posts by Michel Baudin | TLS - TOC, Lean & Six Sigma | Scoop.it
As explained in this 8-part series of articles on using videos to improve operations, it is an art that is still in infancy, 100 years after Frank Gilbreth first demonstrated the power of the approach with films, in spite of the low cost and universal accessibility of video cameras and players. Technically, recording a video is not a challenge but analyzing data in video format still is. The available software makes it easy for human analysts to move back and forth inside a video, slow it down or speed it up, and break it down into steps to name, categorize and comment on....
