Many homeless youth are members of the LGBTQ community. This is because many have families that will kick them out due to their sexuality, making them a throwaway. This site also discusses the stigma that many of these teens are faced with being homeless. I catch many people around me talking about it all the time. They are begging on a street corner because they chose to. Being a throwaway, means that your parents kicked you out of your home, you are not allowed to return. Often runaways have their reasons for leaving, even if a passing stranger doesn’t know it. This site discusses the dangers of being on the streets and that we need to take initiative to protect our youth.

This site provides information about runaway and throwaway youths, along with some personal stories. This article is based out of Nashville, TN. At first it is almost a derogatory perspective to those children in crisis. The article began by talking about how runaways and throwaways were stinky and dirty, later you understand that it was describing the world that these children live in. Amenities not included.

This site reiterates information that can be located by the public from the Runaway Switchboard. They just place it into words. I do believe some of the information may be false though. They slightly mention that teens may resort to sex as a form of getting money. They downgrade it from the prevalence. This mode of sex is called survival sex. See Dawn Schillers information on Throwaway Teens to the left.
