How To Make Sub Bass That Sits In The Mix like a PRO | Thoughts on Music and Music Production | Scoop.it

Just-In Santiago's curator insight, February 10, 2016 11:33 PM

Awesome tips for perfecting that key sub-bass sound that any producer wants in their instrumentals. There are 3 different bass genres: Sub-Bass (any bass below 50Hz to 60Hz) rather felt than heard, Mid-Range Bass: (50Hz to 2KHz) big sounding bass, this is where layering your bass lines comes into play, and finally Upper Bass: Frequencies above 1 KHz to 18 KHz which gives the sharp texture after some modulations and effects are added to the sample. The human ear can hear no lower than 20Hz and no higher than 20KHz. This article taught me how to tweak my bass sounds to sound more precise, clean-cut, and professional.

Why Music Makes Our Brain Sing

Why Music Makes Our Brain Sing | Thoughts on Music and Music Production | Scoop.it
When a song triggers both anticipation and reward, it moves us like nothing else.
Joe Stilez's insight:

"

"So each act of listening to music may be thought of as both recapitulating the past and predicting the future. When we listen to music, these brain networks actively create expectations based on our stored knowledge. Composers and performers intuitively understand this: they manipulate these prediction mechanisms to give us what we want — or to surprise us, perhaps even with something better."

Kyle Ernst's curator insight, April 13, 2015 9:50 PM

Artists have been posting footage of their live shows to social media sites like Youtube for a while. This is no doubt an effort to show what they're like live in comparison to a recording. They want fans to see them playing well so they will hopefully come out to their shows. A company called Music Vault is remastering old concerts of a multitude of bands and posting them on Youtube. The enhanced quality and postings, in my opinion, will intrigue the younger and older generations alike. This could lead to a resurgence in some of these artists music which could lead to monetary gain for some of the artists and labels that are presented. Interesting read!

5 Ways EDM Can Outlive Fad Status - LessThan3 (blog)

5 Ways EDM Can Outlive Fad Status - LessThan3 (blog) | Thoughts on Music and Music Production | Scoop.it
Stars from Quincy Jones to Steve Angello have voiced concerns about EDM's sustainability. Here are five solutions to the problems they're seeing.
Joe Stilez's insight:

"Yes, economic indicators show that EDM has a $6.2 billion worth right now, but as we've seen in the past, dance culture as a socioeconomic force is perfectly capable of reaching a height unsustainable by its roots. In the 1970s, all it took was a crowd of angry rock fanatics demolishing records during a baseball game and declaring that disco sucked, and the whole thing began to die on the spot. Nearly four decades later, we should be smarter than to let that happen again. Here are five solid steps the industry and fans can take to keep the EDM train running forever. "
