The climate is conducive to many activities, especially outdoor activities. I love to remind people that staying active is a key component of good respiratory health," says Thomas Karpiniuk.

Thomas Karpiniuk points out that Florida has many advantages to offer residents. The natural beauty of the state is one of the first things that attracts people. The state of Florida is a peninsula and most larger cities in Florida can be found on the coast. The waters that surround Florida are inviting and picturesque. Florida does have a reputation for attracting people of retirement age. However, as Thomas Karpiniuk notes, "Florida is an attractive home for people of all ages. Florida is doing a good job of attracting a wider demographic. Cities in Florida have great things to offer people of all ages, and everyone loves the water."

Thomas Karpiniuk suggests that many cities in Florida are friendly to walkers. "It is very easy to get around in Florida if you chose to walk. There are also many bike paths for people who like to ride their bicycle as a source of transportation. I think the fact that many Florida cities promote these activities is great!" says Thomas Karpiniuk. Cities in Florida also offer many hiking trails and public parks. These are two great additional ways to enjoy the mild climate and stay active and fit.

Florida is home to many wonderful amusement and theme parks. Many individuals and families make Florida a vacation destination just to visit one of these parks. Residents of Florida have access to these great parks year round. Walt Disney World may be one of the best known and most loved Florida theme parks. There are many parks within the umbrella of Disney such as: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Disney-MGM Studios. Other Florida parks include: Sea World Orlando, the Holyland Experience, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, Discovery Cove, and Universal Orlando. Thomas Karpiniuk is confident that everyone will find something fun to do at a Florida amusement park.

Often, the patients that Thomas Karpiniuk works with are suffering from chronic respiratory diseases. Thomas Karpiniuk has become an advocate for improved respiratory health. He has spent countless hours researching topics related to respiratory health. Thomas Karpiniuk is a member of several professional organizations that he utilizes to connect with other respiratory advocates. He is a member of the Florida Society for Respiratory Care and the National Board for Respiratory Care. Thomas Karpiniuk believes that as an advocate he can find many resources for organizing and promoting awareness through these groups. "I truly believe that many respiratory issues can be prevented. I really want to be involved in helping people understand the importance of respiratory health and how to maintain it," says Thomas Karpiniuk.

 

Thomas Karpiniuk feels that the single most important thing that anyone can do to improve their respiratory health is to not smoke and avoid exposure to second hand smoke. Smoking can lead to many respiratory ailments including asthma, respiratory infections, COPD, and lung cancer. "Smokers need to realize that a significant amount of damage can be reversed when they quit smoking. It is never too late to stop smoking and improve your respiratory health," says Thomas Karpiniuk. Thomas Karpiniuk would like to point out that many advances have been made in the area of smoking cessation. He suggests talking to your doctor about new methods that can aid in smoking cessation.

 

Thomas Karpiniuk notes that diet and exercise are two key additional elements in respiratory health. Frequent exercise helps to strengthen lungs and make them more efficient. Aerobic exercise is the ideal type of exercise to really increase the capacity of your lungs over time. Yoga and Pilates are also great types of exercises for respiratory health. Both yoga and Pilates focus on breathing which is a key part of respiratory health. Diet is important for your respiratory health as well. A diet that is full of vitamins and minerals will be able to build and support the tissues and muscles that are necessary for overall health and especially respiratory health. Some studies show that omega-3 fatty acids can help reduce inflammation in the lungs. This is especially important for people who suffer from asthma according to Thomas Karpiniuk.

I would strongly encourage anyone who is trying to quit smoking to discuss a cessation plan with their physician immediately," says Thomas Karpiniuk. Thomas Karpiniuk notes that smoking cessation programs have come a long way in recent years. Nicotine replacement treatments are deemed to be safe and effective by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Many people find this approach to be more effective than the "cold turkey" approach to quitting. Some people find that hypnosis is an effective aid to quit smoking. Thomas Karpiniuk also notes that many organizations offer support groups for people who are trying to quit smoking. "The most important advice that I like to give to people is don't start smoking," says Thomas Karpiniuk.
