USDA Blog » Local Food: Not All Answers Come From Inside the Beltway | This Week in Organic Ag - 7.23.12 | Scoop.it

The USDA released the 2.0 version of the Compass this month, making it easier to find federal resources to support local food projects across the country. You can use the Compass to find farmers markets, food hubs, meat processing plants and other infrastructure critical to local food.

But can I just say, that I completely adore that she also put together a Storify about it?!? You can see it here: http://storify.com/USDA/launch-of-kyf2-version-2-0 ;

Path AWAY from a 2012 Farm Bill: Pending House Extension Dooms Farm Bill Programs – NSAC

For the past two days we have reported on the surprise move by the House Republican leadership to pull the rug out from under the 2012 Farm Bill. Rather than complete its business by taking the farm bill reported out of the House Agriculture Committee to the floor and then to conference with the Senate-passed version, the House leadership has created a bill out of thin air, a bill that has never been considered by a congressional committee, a bill so new it does not even have a number yet. With no open deliberation, no hearings, no testimony, and no chance for amendments, the House majority leaders plan to put it on the floor for a vote next Wednesday, bypassing the House Agriculture Committee in the process.

FarmPolicy » Blog Archives » Farm Bill Issues and Deteriorating Crop Conditions | This Week in Organic Ag - 7.23.12 | Scoop.it

“Never before in modern times has a farm bill reported from the House Agriculture Committee been so blocked. POLITICO looked back at 50 years of farm bills and found nothing like this. There have been long debates, often torturous negotiations with the Senate and a famous meltdown in 1995 when the House Agriculture Committee couldn’t produce a bill. But no House farm bill, once out of committee, has been kept off the floor while its deadline passes.”
