Do you speak my language?¿Hablas mi idioma?你說我的語言嗎?

Do you speak my language?¿Hablas mi idioma?你說我的語言嗎? | iEARN in Action | Scoop.it

In the past few years, my classes and I have been on a journey across the globe using the Internet. We have interacted and collaborated with classrooms across the world by working with excellent global education organizations such as Flat Classroom™, iEARN, and Globalclassroom. We have emailed, Skyped, snail-mailed, and used so many online Web 2.0 tools I have lost count.

As a parent, teacher and member of the human race, I think that being comfortable in a global arena is not only the key to the economic success of our country, but the key to any kind of stability in our world. The world we live in now is much smaller with technology, and will continue to get smaller. There is so much misunderstanding, fear and distrust between nations, religions, races, and cultures. I experience that separation dissolve when human beings interact on a personal level as students, parents, teachers, sons, daughters, husbands, wives…as just people.

Notes from English Access Summer Institute, #Pakistan

Notes from English Access Summer Institute, #Pakistan | iEARN in Action | Scoop.it

The iEARN team at Society for International Education has worked very hard to deliver an exciting program that consists of a complete range of formal and informal activities. A team of highly experienced professionals facilitated more than 25 concurrant workshops and presentations and 11 whole group combined sessions. There is a strong emphasis throughout the institute on engaging students in cutting edge 21st century learning skills, that includes online project based learning, working collaboratively, team building, integrating technology in all four language skills. Activity based reading to engage in Writing, Listening and Speaking Skills.

An interesting feature of this years students camp is live tweets from the institute. Access Pigeons that is participants from the institute and some facilitators have sent out an average of over 10-15 tweets every day updating a global audience and stake holders of images, experiences, and opinions as they were engaged in different sessions and activities. iEARN USA and other iEARN centres around the world partnered with us and re-tweeted to reach out to a wider global audience. The #accesspigeons were among the top four twitter trends in Pakistan.

PBLU offers a way to meet the growing demand from K-12 teachers who want to shift from traditional instruction to teaching with projects. Unlike workshops that focus on project design, PBLU will emphasize project implementation, management and assessment.

A series of five courses, each lasting for two weeks, will take teachers through all phases of PBL, from "How to Launch a Project" to "How to Showcase Student Work." A capstone experience will be offered for those who complete the five-course sequence, leading to PBL certification. Linking US Global Competence With Education Globally

Linking US Global Competence With Education Globally | iEARN in Action | Scoop.it
Thanks to the work of the Asia Society and others, there is significant buzz about global competence these days. There is a growing consensus (if not funding) around the importance of young people in the U.S. knowing the languages and cultures of other countries. And it's not difficult for political leaders to grasp how important global competence is at both the K-12 and university levels for the US to be able to prepare its young people for 21st century careers.

But, taking a more global perspective, it does little good for us in the U.S. if much of the rest of the world has no quality education ...

Ten trends in technology use in education in developing countries that you may not have heard about | A World Bank Blog on ICT use in Education | iEARN in Action | Scoop.it

"Yet, as exciting as it to see classrooms in Pakistan, say, connect with classrooms in the US, and the impact that is having on both countries, I am struck by how intensely locally focused globally engaged young people are. For example, Maria Taqdees, an iEARN YES program alumna, returned from her year abroad and started a community tech learning centre for women in her community. Again and again, we see young people who are globally connected as K-12 students use their world-view and a little Maker/DIY ingenuity to support community service. They take the global and apply it locally. Tremendous. Trend? Love to see it."
