What differences between the Logical Thinking Process and Theory of Constraints’ Thinking Processes? | Chris Hohmann

What differences between the Logical Thinking Process and Theory of Constraints’ Thinking Processes? | Chris Hohmann | Theory Of Constraints | Scoop.it
Two relatively similar ‘logical thinking ways’ exist and have almost the same names: the Logical Thinking Process and Theory of Constraints’ Thinking Processes. One may ask why two? and what differentiate one from another? The first in time were the Theory of Constraints’ Thinking Processes (TOC TPs, note the plural) that were initiated by Eli…

Thoughts about the connection between DevOps and the Theory of Constraints - Post by Sean Roisentul

[...] Soon after I started working and figuring out this “DevOps” thing my company is doing, I was referenced to the Goldratt’s “Theory of Constraints”. Just talking about it was incredible. I was telling my colleagues about changes I failed to implement at previous workplaces and they gave me the core reason why I failed straight away like they were in the process with me. Moreover, still trying to wrap my head around DevOps, I hear this amazing concept of ToC and they looked exactly the same to me, DevOps sounded to me like taking all of ToC and “squeezing” it into a tech box. ...

Layers of resistance of TOC - Article by Ashton Fourie – FiveToFifty / New Zealand

Layers of resistance of TOC - Article by Ashton Fourie – FiveToFifty / New Zealand | Theory Of Constraints | Scoop.it

There are nine layers of resistance to change and they are built up in a very specific order. This serves as a natural lock that safeguards the stability of our lives. The Nine Moments of Agreement is the key to unlock this powerful mechanism. [...]
Not too long ago I was trying to convince one of my clients that we should introduce the basic TOC measurements of Throughput, Investment and Operating Expense into the business. I was pointing out all the benefits of using these measurements. He would counter-argue about the complexities of their current accounting system, the culture change needed ...

Theory of Constraints - 3 bottle explanation by Arrie van Niekerk

Practical demonstration of how the Theory of Constraints (TOC) can help you to improve your business. Three identical bottles of water flowing at different rates. The challenge is to maximize the flow through your bottleneck and to do it in a spirit of calmness. The Oiled Wheels approach gives you both simultaneously.

Philip Marris's insight:

This website is regarded by many people as one of the best in quality and quantity concerning the Theory Of Constraints. It is administered by Kelvyn Youngman
Philip Marris's curator insight, August 25, 2013 3:42 PM

To quote from his website: "I spent quite some time living in Japan working within a large corporation that was both a batch manufacturer and a significant supplier to Toyota.  Their batch production mode had always caused them to decline “offers” from Toyota to improve their process and timeliness (but not their products which were in every sense of the word “World Class”).  However, together, we were able through Theory of Constraints to produce very significant improvements within a very short period of time.  Results that were significant enough to be reported in the national business press and also national television.

Let me say that I have deep respect for the fundamental techniques of Japanese kaizen, and of Toyota in particular.  Let me also say that I am not ignorant of Lean nor of its predecessors; World Class Manufacturing, Just-in-time, and so forth.  But there is something that is wrong with Lean (and Six Sigma) and I want to try to explain this. ...."

How To Make Better, Faster Decisions When It Really Matters - Blog by Michael Levin

[...] Dr. Alan Barnard, one of the world’s leading scientists in decision-making, has worked to address for more than two decades. He’s developed a new method and field-tested it with individuals and organizations around the globe. The results have been impressive: he has managed to create a simple step-by-step process that can help anyone make better, faster decisions and learn from their past decision mistakes. Like any good scientist, Dr. Barnard started by studying the giants in his field. Just as he studied Franklin and Kahneman, he also studied another giant: Eli Goldratt, author of The Goal. [...] He called his new method the “ProConCloud” in homage to Benjamin Franklin and Eli Goldratt.

A Feasible Goal – Michael Fogleman

[Analysis of The Goal and Dettmer's Logical Thinking Process] Everything that happens in this world is subject to cause and effect.

The rules of cause and effect (Categories of Legitimate Reservation) are universally applicable to any logic-based situation.

A Goal Tree can provide a benchmark for desirable performance.

A Current Reality Tree can reveal the interdependent cause-and-effect relationships behind deviations from desired performance.

Evaporating Clouds can help resolve apparently intractable dilemmas, which often perpetuate critical root causes of undesirable effects.

A Future Reality Tree can provide a robust “bench test” of proposed solutions, complete with consideration of potentially undesirable outcomes — unintended consequences — that might be associated with them.

Prerequisite Trees are the bridge between logically constructed solutions and their implementation.

Using the Thinking Process, you can start with an ill-defined problem and end with an implementation plan for a solution that offers a high probability of success.

Logical solutions are not enough. Implementation requires effective leadership and careful consideration of human psychology.

How Digital Twins Can Optimize Technology Investments | Forbes.com | Theory Of Constraints | Scoop.it

... Think of the theory of constraints made popular in the Eliyahu Goldratt’s book The Goal. A high-resolution operational model can show where in the larger system constraints exist. Investment can then be targeted to remove the constraints (for example, by improving performance or expanding capacity or refreshing technology). Then a new constraint can be identified. ...

Goal Tree Chronicles – A hierarchy in time, not of importance | Chris Hohmann | Theory Of Constraints | Scoop.it
A common mistake for newcomers to the Goal Tree is to understand the tree structure as a hierarchical system, with the most important Necessary Conditions on the top - the closest on the Goal - and the least important at the bottom of the tree, farther away from the Goal. The Science of Management | Article by Humberto Baptista based on the Introduction to Eli Goldratt's last unfinished book

Eli Goldratt died before completing his work, but he left us the introduction to his book and recorded himself narrating it (see the free video here). In this short and powerful piece he bring us about to rethink the basis for human evolution and how TOC fits into it through the path of management. It also highlights some of the fundamental principles that support all of the Theory of Constraints (and basic decent human behaviour by the way).

I noticed many people, including some close friends and collaborators of Eli Goldratt, are not familiar with this, so following Eli's clearly expressed wished of putting his work in the public domain I will transcribe the video here and comment a bit on the meaning behind it. This won't be a comprehensive work on the subject of a real Science of Management, but hopefully will ignite the spark on the subject.
