Nonverbal communication is a vital form of communication. Nonverbal cues can send strong messages about trust, understanding and knowledge, or just the opposite.

 

This is particularly true with horses. The place where our spines meet sends powerful nonverbal messages.

 

This is also true with how we use our hands on the reigns and lunge line. If your movement is fluid you send positive messages. If you tighten your wrist or elbow a horse feels fear, distrust or anger.

“When a stallion is imported to the United States, the USDA requires that they test breed two mares to be declared clear of CEM,” said Waldridge. “We tried everything and exhausted every option, but War Emblem refused to breed his mares, and so we were left with no choice but to geld him.”

Scientists map whole genome of a Marwari horse - Horsetalk.co.nz

First Asian horse breed to have its entire genome mapped.

This is a very interesting article. The researchers that did the study concluded that “The whole genome sequencing data from the Marwari horse provides a rich and diverse genomic resource that can be used to improve our understanding of animal domestication and will likely be useful in future studies of phenotypes and disease.”


Look at the way the Marwari horses ears are turned inward at the tips. The researchers found a potential functional genetic variant in the TSHZ1 gene believed to be associated with this distinguishing feature.

Lakeland Animal Nutrition has been informed that certain horse feeds manufactured by the company in Lakeland, Florida and distributed within the state of Florida may contain monensin and lasalocid. Serious injury or death can occur in horses consuming feeds containing monensin and/or lasalocid.
