Higher yields are tough to find.   According to this article in nasdaq.com, the highest yielding international bond fund range from 5 to 7%, mostly in emerging market debt.   As always, diversification is key, but it's hard not to point out that the yields  on high quality property backed real estate notes are quite competitive to these rates and the collateral is in your backyard.

Remember when your Grandpa decided to retire?  He sold his business or the farm and took back a mortgage or trust deed from the buyer.   The interest payments Grandpa received pretty much represented his retirement income.  Many years ago that’s how the majority of businesses and farms changed hands – in the private market with the seller taking back a mortgage or trust deed on the property.
