THE IT WORKSHOP

Honestly, I was not aware that there was the option of validating exams for this course. And admittedly, I was not very observant with my enrolment form schedule that I actually went to class not knowing that it was for the validating exams. I went to the MS word and MS excel validating exams and learned that I was not supposed to be there. A benefit was that I was able to submit my MS word requirement early since I passed it same as the deadline for that class.

I soon joined the actual workshop class after the validating exams were done, and with no regrets, I was happy that I ended up with the workshop class. I was happy that I got to learn about the keyboard shortcuts since those were very helpful in how efficient work was being done. Same is true for MS excel. Less time is spent dragging the mouse and clicking multiple icons. Also, just when I thought I knew a lot, new learnings that are very helpful were taught such as the pivot tables. I used to copy paste everything to achieve pivoting since and I thought that was the only way. Thank goodness I learned that it is not.

For the powerpoint class, it was not that enjoyable to me, but I did like the Prezi. I was not able to do much with it though given that I was busy with work and other activities, but surely this is something I would like to get better on. The photoshop exercises were also enjoyable since photography used to be my hobby, and I have always loved editing photos. Although my medium was not Photoshop but Corel, the process is almost the same.

The internet research was also enjoyable. I was able to share my deviantart page which I have almost forgotten that I had. I haven't been active in it for the longest time. But soon enough, I want to get back to my hobbies.

All in all I am glad I took up the workshop class, and this workshop class particularly.

This is money well spent. After all, the point of taking up MBA is to add new knowledge and skills, and this indeed does add new knowledge and skills for me, and something out of the ordinary.

My Purpose Driven Life

THE PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE

I have found my purpose...

Life is a journey, and each of us has been given his own path to take. Some long, some short, some rich in adventures, and some are laid back. But however our paths are laid, it is us who write the story of our lives by the choices that we make. As life is lived every day, choices are also made every day. Choices from what to eat, where to go, how to have a good time, what work to do, which career to make, who to spend the rest of lives with, etc. Whatever choice we make, they are quintessential to what we will become in the future. Unfortunately, many choices are made without knowing or understanding the implications they have in life. Some people try to do too many in the notion that busyness equates to success. Some people try to work based solely on monetary rewards, while some people are even incapable of making their own choices.
In the entire dilemma we face in making choices every day, having a clear goal in life enables us to make decisions aligned with what we really want to achieve. Although some people are good achievers, not all achievements are fulfilling. Many have achieved much, and gained much, but still at the end of the day asks the question what life is all about. Life to many people has become a tedious cycle. The monotony of everyday has reduced living to simply existing to work, to excel, to eat, to achieve, to be merry, etc. These are the bulk that preoccupies our waking hours. Every person has all these in common, but the one thing that not every person is aware of is purpose. I believe that for someone to understand what life is all about, it begins with knowing his purpose.

To people who do not know their purpose, life will always be empty, and hence they try to fill the emptiness with things that just do not fit. They embrace activities that lead to burnout, debauchery, and even relationships based on delusion or false idea of love. Without purpose, life simply boils down to mere existence.
Knowing one’s purpose gives meaning. It creates the definition and identity of a person. It makes one unique, as each of us has our own unique purpose designed especially for us. Knowing our purpose allows us to set out path. Knowing our purpose makes our decisions based on a clear life goal that we are set to. It gives us focus on what really should matter. Hence, the limited 24 hour each day that we are given we become good stewards of since we no longer aimlessly do things without directive.
I believe I have found my purpose in life, and it all boils down to these simple elements: relationships, passion, and service.

RELATIONSHIPS:
Many people miss out on relationships, but I believe that it is relationships that we are ultimately made for. As I have stated in my reflection paper, before anything else that we become, we first are born out of a family, a family built on relationships. And from where we were born, it is the relationship that first defines us, sons and daughters. Following the example of the bible, when God created man, he then said “it is not good for man to be alone.” Hence he created a companion. In this passage, it can be seen that relationships are essential to life. In this light, I deeply recognize that I have my own unique and special purpose as a son to God and my parents, a friend, a brother, a fiancé, and soon to be a father. These are the relationships that God has entrusted to me.
In less than one and a half years, I will marry the person I believe that God has set for me. I believe that is part of my uniqueness, that there is only one person I was made for to spend the rest of my life with, to take care, to cultivate, to love, to serve, and to honor the Lord with through the ministry of marriage. It is my purpose to raise children with her, and to teach them values about love, honesty, integrity, and all the things that Jesus Christ stands for. It is my purpose to serve as a role model to my own family, to provide for them the best that I can give, financially, emotionally, and spiritually. Such is my motivation to work as a businessman. In the years to come my thrust is to expand my own business and the business that has been entrusted to me, and to create even more businesses.
It is also my purpose to give honor to my parents as they have given honor to theirs as well. It is also my purpose to build and enhance my relationships with my friends. To ensure their welfare by allotting time for them, even by simply having a good hour of conversation over a cup of coffee weekly to share with them my learnings and to learn from them as well.
By the time my journey comes to an end, it is my hope that I have built enough relationships with people. It is my hope to leave good memories with them, and have an impact in their lives that they have become better persons because of me.

PASSION:
I would consider passion to fall under relationships as well. Passion is about my relationship with myself. Like all relationships, they are to be nurtured, developed, and cultivated. I believe that it is the Lord who has given me the burning passion for music. He has given the love to play guitar, to cultivate my skill, and to return it back to him. Since I was young I have always been musically inclined. I would do gestures of playing the guitar with badminton rackets and brooms, and since I learned how to play as a teenager, it has always been a source of joy and self fulfillment to make music.
I believe that such a passion and drive, given by the Lord is something that we are to cultivate. It is the part of ourselves that we give back to ourselves to make us whole. It is part of my plans to play music, and to let my music touch the lives of many people, and to offer back to God such given passion by leading people to worship in our church.
Another artistic inclination that the Lord has given me is photography. It is a hobby that I have neglected for some time now, which I plan on returning to in the near future. These passions are the things that I hope I can leave my children with. These are the things that I hope that we will able to share and make great bonds with.

SERVICE:
Finally is service. I believe that a life that is lived well is a life that is lived for others. I believe that we are all called to serve and return to the community. For this reason, I have taken a course in MBA in order to earn credentials to teach. Having been a student of De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde, I have developed a heart for the institution, its students, and its values. I believe that it is my service to my community and fellow Lasallians to become an educator. I find it a great honor and a privilege to be able to mentor and hone the next generation of citizens that will serve the country. It is in my plan that I will become a part-time instructor at the De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde after I graduate from MBA in four years.
Another service that I find purpose in is service through my church. This is perhaps where all of three elements come together; relationships, passion, and service. In church is where I continually learn how to improve relationships with people, and ultimately to God. In church is where I am able to hone my musical passion which is music by leading people to worship. In church is where both relationship and passion turn into service. I plan to continue this for the rest of my life.

CONCLUSION:
These are the outlines by which I base all my decisions in life. All of my activities, how I spend my time, how I spend my money, and how I live everyday are based on these three elements. I have chosen to keep my life goal simple and few so as not to cram too many unnecessary activities. I choose to just focus on the things that really matter. I have also chosen not to give myself too much specific time frames so as to keep the spontaneity that life brings. Keeping open allows me to enjoy the better ways God has devised to fulfill the purpose he has given me. Proverbs 16:9 says “In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.” Having been able to discover my purpose, and steering toward that direction, I now leave it up to God’s perfect time for everything to fall into place.
