Before compact discs, you had to rewind and fast-forward to get to a particular bit of information. Not so with digital storage -- the CD makes pinpointing data a split-second task.

Speed and Velocity

Dan Peppler's insight:

Article about tangental velocity. Usefull because it will describe how a spinning disc will have the same angular velocity but different points on it will have different tangental velocities. As the data on the CD moves toward the outside it will be moving by the laser much quicker that on the inside.

One of the main pieces of my paper will be about the motor that makes the CD/DVD spin and while we haven't gotten into that topic in class yet I assume we will since it has to do with both electricity and magnetism. This article gives me the basics of how a simple motor works
