Alexis's insight:

Summary:

The Lovely Bones is the story of a family that was torn apart by a horrendous murder, a murder told by the teenage victim. From her view in heaven, Susie Salmon describes how she was taken by the murderer one afternoon on her way home from school. She was lured into an underground hiding place where she was raped and killed by her neighbor. The reader knows what's going on but Susie's family does not. Susie's family was devastated by their loss which only made things worse at home. Susie's father always thought that she was still with them, even after the police had said that she was pronounced dead. Susie isn't ready to let go of her life just yet. So, she watches over her family and friends as they struggle to cope with the fact she is no longer alive.

Theme:

The theme of this book is Grief, Love, Acceptance, Good vs. Evil.

Recommendation:

I would recommend this book to anyone I know because it's really a good book and I feel like teen girls would like this because of the feminine approach to teens.

Alexis's insight:

Summary:

This song is called "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion. This is a very touching song in which her love is already dead but she can still feel him in her dreams and that is how she knows that he is still alive in her heart.
Even though he is dead, thier love can never die.

Relation to The Lovely Bones:

This song goes along with The Lovely Bones in that this song could be pertaining to Susie's love for Ray. It could also go along with Susie and her father.

The In-between

The In-between | The Lovely Bones - Independent Reading | Scoop.it
Alexis's insight:

Summary:

This picture looks more like a "Heaven" type of a place. It looks like a place that's calm and peaceful, a tranquil place for people who are gone to go and live the rest of their eternal lives.

Relation to The Lovely Bones:

This picture has to do with Susies transition place. A transition place is kind of like the inbetween of Heaven and The World. Its the place where Susie could still "feel" her family and keep watch over her family and friends and her murderer.

When Your Child Is Missing: A Family Survival Guide

Alexis's insight:

Summary:

This article is about how to deal with a child missing or taken from your family. It talks about how to help and how to encourage you and your family members that are going through such a horrible tragedy. It lists the ways and techniques on how to cope.

Relation to The Lovely Bones:

This is related to The Lovely Bones in that I feel like if Susie's had had this guide, then maybe he could have coped with the fact that Susie was never coming back and he could have saved himself some of that stress and grief that comes with losing a loved one. He would have obviously been devasated, but he could have eventually come to terms with the death of Susie in an easier, peaceful way.

Grief

Student Resources In Context
Alexis's insight:

Summary:

This article is about grief and what grief even is and how to cope with what has happened. "Each year more than 14% of Americans 18 years and older about 42 million people experience the death of either a parent, spouse, sibling, or child." (World of Health) Grief is usually self-limiting; it will end when it naturally comes to a conclusion. For some people, that may be a matter of a few months, or others, grief may take years even five years or more for unexpected or traumatic deaths.

Related to The Lovely Bones:

This article is related to this book because The Lovely Bones is about grief and learning to accept thing you might not want to accept. This article explains how to handle grief and what you should do if and when you lose someone that you hold dear to your heart.

The Lovely Bones - Trailer [HD]

Based on the critically acclaimed best-selling novel by Alice Sebold, and directed by Oscar winner Peter Jackson from a screenplay by Jackson & Fran Walsh & ...
Alexis's insight:

Summary:

This is The Lovely Bones movie trailer. It depicts the events pertaining to the book. I liked this movie because it is part romance and part suspense with a little bit of scary-ness added to it.

Relation to The Lovely Bones:

The movie and the book are similar and different. It's different in that Susie is murdered and raped.

-Characters omitted from the movie: Hal Heckler (Lindsay's boyfriend's brother), Ruana Singh (Ray's mom), Mr. and Mrs. DeWitt (track coach and English teacher)
-Characters that play a larger role in the book: Holiday (their dog), Len, Samuel (Lindsay's boyfriend), Ruth, Ray, Lindsay, Buckley
-Len and Abigail have an affair before Abagail leaves
-Susie's body is dumped in the sinkhole at the BEGINNING of the book
-The book doesn't have as much with the "in-between"--the only time it is really mentioned is in the beginning and it is more like a normal town, such as the high school is there because Susie wanted to go there and never got the chance, there aren't giant ships in bottles or anything like that
-Jack has a heart attack which is how he ends up in the hospital and why Abagail comes back

It's Scary at Night

It's Scary at Night | The Lovely Bones - Independent Reading | Scoop.it
Alexis's insight:

Summary:

This is a picture of a corn field at night. As you can see, the corn is looking dead and scary because its dark outside and you never really know what could be hiding in there.

Related to The Lovely Bones:

I picked with picture because in the book, Susie had been walking across a corn field when she taken underground by the killer and it was a significant point in the book because it set everything into motion for the rest of the story and her being killed was a big point in the book.

My Sister's Keeper

My Sister's Keeper | The Lovely Bones - Independent Reading | Scoop.it

My Sister's Keeper is a story about love and fear and grief. This story is about a family who has been torn apart and put back together.

Alexis's insight:

Summary:

My Sister's Keeper is a story about a family torn apart by a terrible disease.  The conflicting members of the family argue about subjects concerning Kate, a child who has leukemia. Kates yonger sister, Anna has gone through countless surgeries, transfusions, and shots by age thirteen, so that her older sister, Kate, can somehow fight the leukemia that she has had all throughout her childhood. The product of preimplantation, Anna was conceived as a bone marrow match for Kate, a life and a role that she has never challenged...until now. Anna is beginning to question who she truly is. But unlike most teenagers her age, she has always been defined in terms of her sister and so Anna, makes a decision that for most would be unthinkable. The decision will tear her family apart and perhaps have fatal consequences for the sister she loves.

Relation to The Lovely Bones:

Both books have to do with the fact that the families are fighting to save the children that they love. It is also about teenage girls coming to terms with their lives and maturing in ways. It is also about familes being torn apart by grief and pulled back together by the love of thier familes.

Some of the biggest unsolved crimes of recent memory are also some of the biggest stories of our time. The fact that no perpetrators were ever found, raises
Alexis's insight:

Summary:

This video is about 20 crimes that have been commited but never considered "closed" because the people involved were never found.

The cases involve mostly Murder and Kidnapping and Abductions.

Relation to The Lovely Bones:

This video pertains to the fact about what happened to Susie Salmon in The Lovely Bones. Susie (like all the people in the video) was never found. In the book, it was said that, Mr. Harvey had put Susie's remains in a safe and threw into a sinkhole. Although, the cases in the video didn't have the same outcome, the families still felt the same pain and torture of not having closure.
