Jeffrey Ross's insight:

Well, it's the 4th of July again, time for those furniture ads that entice people to spend more than they can afford simply by "postponing" payment until the year 2014!  Man, bet you could use a new fucking couch, right? That's right, and you won't have to worry about not being able to afford it until next year!  And guess what, it gets even better, it's interest free...oh, if you pay the balance in full at the end of the grace period; if not, it's 27%, retroactive.

Have a nice nap on that new puppy...

A Seminal Moment in One's Life

Jeffrey Ross's insight:

The 35th Kennedy Center Honors reached a high water mark this week with the recognition and tribute to Led Zeppelin. If you grew up as I did, reaching your teens wth a band like Zeppelin exploding into your consciousness, this tribute was the holy grail; a defining moment that will leave an indelible mark in your life. The entire tribute to this band was something from heaven, but the necture of the the gods had to be the Wilson sister's performance of 'Highway to Heaven'. With Jason Bonham on drums, the band brought the audience to a place few have ventured; Yo Yo Ma, his eyes closed, enraptured, the President and his wife, captivated. When the choir appeared, wearing bowler hats, a tribute to drummer John Bonham, and the camera caught the tears welling up in the eye's of Plant and Page; it was a defining moment.

As I watched, with my 5 year old son Lucas, my emotions overcame me. Lucas asked me why I was crying. I told him it was because daddy was so very happy; that they were tears of joy. He asked if I was ok. I told him I was never better; truer words have never been spoken.

WE'VE HAD ENOUGH...THANK YOU.

WE'VE HAD ENOUGH...THANK YOU. | The Lighter Side Of Internal Bleeding...by Jeffrey Ross | Scoop.it
Jeffrey Ross's insight:

It is impossible for me to watch broadcast news. I stopped Monday when, much to my dismay, the networks continued their onslaught on the tragedy in Newtown. NBC, ever so clever, has now interviewed 1st, 2nd and 3rd responders. Just who is a 3rd responder? How about the guys who moved the desks out of the school to other area schools. Incredible insight for those interested in how furniture is moved following a horrific tragedy. Not to be undone, ABC has an exluusive interview with the guy who cuts the Sandy Hook School's lawn. Hey, children slaughtered; grass still grows. All the while talking heads frown and tear up over "what the families must be going thru;" while friends and relatives entering the town to pay respects and attend funerals maneuver around satellite trucks and network vans. When is enough enough? It depends on what an advertiser is willing to spend.

Within the circus atmosphere created by these integruous journalists, the salient issue that keeps poping up, in between "heart warming" stories like the one showing dogs brought in to "cheer" the children up (Entertainment Tonight has the "behind the scene" intrigue surrounding the dogs), is... MOTIVE?

So, here's the rub. When a person puts 5 bullets into the face of their caring mother, then drives off to an elementary school to slaughter 18 defenseless 6 year olds in cold blood, THERE IS NO MOTIVE...THERE IS ONLY DERANGED INSANITY. This morning's NYT has an article explaining the wish of the Connecticut forensic coroner for help from geneticists who might possibly find a motive in the shooter's genes; IN HIS GENES. People, if this was a movie, could any of you suspend your disbelief long enough to buy the shit that has transpired since this nightmare began?

Enough.

Good Things Come to Those Who Wait....AND WAIT

Good Things Come to Those Who Wait....AND WAIT | The Lighter Side Of Internal Bleeding...by Jeffrey Ross | Scoop.it

Last night Lynn took me to Prime 112 for a belated birthday dinner. We had a terrific table with a view of the open kitchen; we both love to cook and appreciate watching talented people do the impossible, put incredible food out at blistering speed. We interrupted our "show" with wonderful conversation between us; it is amazing how many similarities we share and the number of like things we love and appreciate together. Remember, this is a girl I saw across the lobby of the Americana Hotel on Collins ave in 1967 when I was 16 and she was 14. I thought she was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen; all these years later, after living our lives without each other, but always thinking about each other, I still feel the same way. But one thing has changed, she has become more than a beautiful face; she is a person who does what she loves and loves what she does, successful in business and in life; able to drop a credit card on a $500.00 dinner tab without thinking and turn to me, tenderly, and say, "happy birthday, darling; my first boyfriend is back in my life."

So here's the deal, having Lynn back in my life is a game changer. I'm the luckiest guy in the world with an incredible, beautiful son who I love more than life itself, and a fantastic, successful, beautiful girl who I RESPECT and adore. I am done.  It only took 45 years...luckily I was unconscious for about half of them.

The Lighter Side of Internal Bleeding...by Jeffrey Ross | The Lighter Side Of Internal Bleeding...by Jeffrey Ross | Scoop.it

My 82 year old mother fell recently. As anyone will tell you, it is the recovery that matters. The looming question is always, "will everything be back like it was?" Well, no, it's not. Yes she is in less pain and her appetite has improved. The color has returned to her face and she is once again ambulatory. Oh...did I mention she's convinced she's a leprechaun? My mother now walks thru her building telling everyone she knows the location of a hidden crock of gold. The exact location of said crock depends on her mood and the person she is telling. Last week, she was over heard in her lobby telling Mrs. Rosenblatt that the crock was located at the bottom of the pool. Days earlier, Mrs. Rosenblatt failed to invite my mother to a cocktail party. Mrs. Rosenblatt is a terrible swimmer. My son keeps asking why grandma always looks like she just fell off a box of Lucky Charms. Why am I telling you this? Bleed on...

Ok, so here's the rub...I understand FB's appeal as a means of reconnecting with people who have been out of ones life for many years. I like the idea that those people contacted have the option of STAYING out of said person's life...um, a while longer. I also understand its place as a forum to evaluate and discuss important issues; shared amongst and between within the "village" one inhabits. What I don't understand, what drives me fucking crazy, makes me want to take a large wooden mallot to my MacBook...are those people who use the platform to..."wish everyone a happy Friday"! Please...fucking stop...

Sad and Tragic...

Sad and Tragic... | The Lighter Side Of Internal Bleeding...by Jeffrey Ross | Scoop.it
Jeffrey Ross's insight:

Watching the Weiner press conference this morning, I couldn't help but notice the physical toll this debacle has taken on Huma Abedin, his wife. Of course, it's the emotional beating she's taken throughout this public nightmare that quietly ravishes her soul; beneath her withered appearance. She made a decision to stay in her marriage, her family, with a new born in the equation; to go into therapy and pray, to believe.

Having experienced the exact opposite in my own life years ago, with a 7 month old son, a wife who, though equally culpable in the marital problems we shared, decided to walk away; not even an attempt, not even a discussion, I have to respect what she has done; sacrificed her happines, the joy of new motherhood and her brilliant career, in the hope that everything would change. It has not. Time to move on.

I am posting a picture of Huma taken in 2004, years before Weiner was in her life. You can see why I was so affected by seeing her this morning; she  is not the same person. I am happy to say, incidentally, that, having lost 15 pounds during the ensuing years, neither am I.

I wish you Godspeed, Huma. Until then, I guess you'll continue to...

Moving Forward

Getting Better All The Time...

Jeffrey Ross's insight:

It has now been 6 years since the end of my marriage. Suffice it to say that both my ex-wife and I behaved very badly during our brief courtship and ensuing marriage. That it all lasted 4 years is nothing short of a miracle. It was certainly one way God lets you know that you are making too much money and making too few rational decisions. A saving grace, our beautiful son Lucas, alas, entered our lives in the end, despite the madness.

Why am I bringing this up? Well, one has to set the stage before one can share something present. Like having something to compare another thing to...even if it means ending a sentence with a preposition, which I cleverly just avoided.

Lucas changed my life in a number of profound ways which I will not bore you with. That being said, my epiphany, what truly changed my life; transformed me, was that It stopped being about me and became all about someone else. Sounds simple right? Took 55 years.

So, here's the rub. It is impossible to correct a problem, to change how you see the world and how you relate to other people, if you are still at the level of consciousness in which the problem was created. Can't be done, period.

Thank you, Lucas, for helping me reach a level where change became a possibility; you've changed my life and continue to do so each and every day. I love you. Thank you Chandra, for at least attempting to understand what really happened in our marriage and for being the most incredible mother to our beautiful son.

2012

Jeffrey Ross's insight:

I've been thinking about the holidays lately and everything I have to be grateful for. Naturally I begin with a sense of wellbeing and good health; my beautiful son and an incredible woman to share life's ups and downs with....and, um...

Seriously, I guess my friends, although some have been behaving in ways that puts their friendship into new light  My company has had an incredible first year; finishing 2012 with a record month. Freud believed in order to be happy a person needs to do two things-Lieben und Arbeiten; Love and Work. Check.

Could it be better? Probably.  But hey, it's all good; I've got my spine, I've got my orange crush.

Someone To Talk To

Someone To Talk To | The Lighter Side Of Internal Bleeding...by Jeffrey Ross | Scoop.it

I have been listening to a number of people giving other people marital advice lately, more so than usual. Maybe because of the time of year. I find that the holiday season lends itself to juxtaposing the joy and good spirits in the air with the misery of being in a bad marriage, which account for about 70% of all marriages; the remaining 30% being just tollerable. When someone tells me how terrible their marriage is and the misery they feel I tell them to talk to someone who can understand....like people who are living without intestines.

Every now and then I am forced to carry someone into my place and put them to bed. Hey, someone has to do it. It amazes me when, in the morning, I am first asked for breakfast, then "where am I?" and finally, my name. Thus, to be safe, I am always well stocked with omlette necessities...and a name tag.
