The Last True Story I'll Ever Tell | The Last True Story I'll Ever Tell-Independent Reading | Scoop.it

In a voice at once raw and immediate, the author chronicles his daily life as a young soldier in Iraq: the excitement, horror, anger, tedium, fear, camaraderie and the transformation of a group of young college students into something entirely different.

Jack's insight:

Summary:

The Last True Story I'll Ever Tell is a true story about a guy named John Crawford. Who enlisted in the Army reserves so they would pay for his education. While he was getting his education, he met a women who he later married. But right as they got married, even before their honnymoon, he got called on to go fight in Iraq.

Review:

I liked this book because it was very detailed and i felt as if i was there with him in all of the bad situations he was in. I leared that if I join in any part of the army, join a part that isnt on the front lines. Because its alot of stress, pressure, and alot of work.

Theme:

The theme of this book is that you should do the best you can with the worst situations. If life gives you lemons, make lemonade. But if life gives you plums, make prunes.

Uncovered: The War On Iraq

Uncovered: The War On Iraq | The Last True Story I'll Ever Tell-Independent Reading | Scoop.it
The Bush Administration made up its' mind to go to war on September 11th 2001. From that time on, you were dealing with rationalization and justification
Jack's insight:

Summary:

This documentary is all about the war in Iraq and how it started. President George Bush declared war on Iraq after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. He thought it was justified because he suspected that Saddam Hussein was creating weapons of mass destruction, but when they were in Iraq, they didnt find any weapons. The Bush Administration hung Saddam Hussein within the first few weeks that we invaded Iraq, putting in a new government. This new government didnt work out too well because of two different groups who wanted to be in power. Both of these groups differed by religious and political ideals. So they were fighting for power, while U.S. forces still occupied Iraq to stabilze and rebuild Iraq.

Connection:

This documentary is connected to the novel, The Last True Story I'll Ever Tell, because the novel is about one man's journey through the war. The documentary tells you about all the reasons why the war started and why we fought in it for 7 years. If the documentary had one person's account on the war that would have made it better because all they had talking were old people who were in the CIA during the start of the war. If the book had more explanations of the war and why it started, it would have related to this documentary better.

Seven Years in Iraq: An Iraq War Timeline - TIME | The Last True Story I'll Ever Tell-Independent Reading | Scoop.it
A Brief History of the War — Month By Month, Quote By Quote...
Jack's insight:

Summary:

This website was created to show timelines of certain events, like the Iraq war. The war started in 2003 on March 19 at 9:34 p.m. first strikes were made on the outskirts of Baghdad. President Bush outlines the purpose of invading Iraq: "to disarm Iraq, to free its people, and to defend the world from grave danger." Then in march of 2010, Iraq held parliamentary elections.

Connection:

This website is connected to my novel by both have something to do with the Iraq war. The website shows a timeline of the war, and my novel tells one mans story throughout the war. If in the book they told us what time frame he served in, that would have helped to see what exactly he would be trying to complete. Instead of just following orders, and biting their tongues.

House to House

House to House | The Last True Story I'll Ever Tell-Independent Reading | Scoop.it
"Blood flows over my left hand and I lose my grip on his hair. His head snaps back against the floor. In an instant, his fists are pummel...
Jack's insight:

Summary:

House To House is a true story about a soldier's memoir that is destined to rank with the finest personal accounts of men at war. David Bellavia was in one of the most sustained and savage uraban battes of the Iraqi war in Fallujah. Third Platoon, Alpha Company, part of the Army's Task Force 2 was his platoon. They fought in hand-to-hand combat.

Connection:

House To House is connected to The Last True Story I'll Ever Tell by having one main character, but also having many people around them to help fight. Also both books take place in the Iraq war and they have simmilar jobs. They are both on the front lines of the war doing most of the fighting.

The War in Iraq

Jack's insight:

Summary:

The Iraq War started in 2001, after the terrorist attacks of 9/11. In March 2003 troops from the United States, Britain, and other countries, attacked Iraq in an effort to get rid of its long time dictator, Saddam Hussein. The military action was needed by claims from the intelligence that Iraq was making weapons of mass destruction, which we found out to be false. We we successful, within weeks, Hussein was removed from power and a new government was installed. A rivilary broke out between Iraqi factions divided by religious and political differences. In 2007 U.S. troops still occupied Iraq to stabilize and rebuild Iraq. The rising toll of U.S. military casualties made the American public unsatisfied with the war and spurred calls for a withdrawal of U.S. troops.

Connection:

This Article is connected to The Last True Story I'll Ever Tell because both are about the Iraq War. The article stated how the war started and what the US did during it. And the book was one man's stroy about his account of the war, and what he had to do to survive. The article didnt say anything about how many people each side lost or any statistics like that, neither did the book.
