Why is researching the reasoning behind a lack of communication important?

The topic of "How have users of social networking been impacted in their face-to-face interactions" has a negative affect in many lives. Today's youth has been missing out on a lot of face-to-face interaction experience. Back when their was no Facebook or Myspace people would talk in person and that was one of the only ways other then over the phone. This has changed so much now, we now have no experiences that help us develop certain qualities that we should have such as our social skills. We also don't read social cues like facial expressions or body languages reading something over a screen. I learned that a lot more more people then I thought have been lacking social communication skills, it is more then just the youth. It is everyone all ages, social groups, and all races. It allow people to be whoever they want to be online when their chatting with someone and when they meet that person in person they actually see the real them. Its becoming twisted and when your online it causes you to talk to people you never would in person, and this makes people so comfortable talking to others online that when their placed in reality they feel awkward and don't exactly know how to handle it. Their used to sitting behind their computer screens chatting, social networking has proven that we lack face-to-face interactions.

Is Texting & Social Media Platforms causing teens to lack in Interpersonal Communicative Skills? | Social Desire | The Lacking of Social Skills due to the Internet | Scoop.it

Due to mobile devices such as text messaging & social media platforms like instant messaging & MySpace are teens today lacking interpersonal communicative skills? Yes in my opinion they are, I think so many kid are hiding behind their computer screens and saying things they would never say in person. Related to this, when your younger their are things that need to be said in person between you and anyone but in specific your parents. There are things you have to discuss with them that are uncomfortable I do believe its a learning experience and makes you a stronger communicator to talk face-to-face but not many people do this now a day and lack these skills.

Internet addiction disorder - causes, DSM, functioning, therapy, drug, person, people, used | The Lacking of Social Skills due to the Internet | Scoop.it

People who have Internet addictions disorders have a couple different stereotypes one main one that hit home was being social awkward. The availability of computers and access to the Internet has increased which makes us americans have a easier time to jump on the computer and talk to random people and be comfortable with that, but then in real interaction like face-to-face they act awkward and are more nervous. This is not a good quality to have and it is starting to happen now with all different ages, social classes, and races.

Social networking sites could be harming people's health by reducing levels of face-to-face contact, an expert claims. Not only is this bad to lack face-to-face interaction but it could alter the way your genes work by upsetting the immune responses, hormone levels, and influences mental performance. Julie Yahner agrees that social networking and the use of texting does cause us to lack face-to-face interaction. A couple years ago she remembers when her daughter being 14 years of age, had been messaging this boy back and forth all day. They were planing on meeting up at a festival they were both planning on attending. Having said that Julie seen them walk right past each other, without a hello or anything. This is a perfect example of how social networking proves us to lack face-to-face interaction. People tend to talk more on these social networks then they do in person, or in some cases causes people that never talk in person to interact over the Internet and even after that they still won't talk in person. It causes kids to not be able to communicate in an effective or a polite way..And causes them to be whoever you want to be and when it comes to seeing someone in person the real you comes out.

How Does Technology Affect Kids’ Friendships? - NYTimes.com | The Lacking of Social Skills due to the Internet | Scoop.it

Todays youth is missing out on experiences that help you develop certain qualities one having empathy, reading social cues like facial expression and body languages. That is no good and it only seems to be getting worst. One thing from this that had me thinking was how people now a day don't do things they should do in person they would rather do it over Facebook and whatnot. For an example saying happy birthday to someone close to you such as a family member or best friend, we would rather post it on their facebook wall and I think this is not right. We over use these social networks and use them for anything and everything that we can. Its becoming twisted what their actually for, we start to lack social skills because were so comfortable talking online rather then in person.

Social networking had changed the ways we interact with one another enormously ! The amount of time we spend on facebook a day is sickening so of that time, how much of that is devoted to talking to people on there that we wouldn't in person. And whats really sad is when we are actually with our friends and people we talk to, is the amount of time we spend going on Facebook on our phones. Even at social gathering with our families we do this, it is terrible.

Facebook, Myspace, Twitter: Good or Bad for Kid's Brain?

Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter all in a sense detracts us from learning how to communicate in the society today. I couldn't agree more with this statement, social network is affecting our communication skills. We are looking at a screen and are not learning subtleties of real life communications such as tone of voice, body language. It is not a good thing because we are spending more time on screen relationships then in real life relations.
