When a racing or breeding career ends, thoroughbreds quickly lose value and may end up in a slaughterhouse.
Donna Martin's insight:

"In the horse adoption world, ex-racehorses are seen as the equivalent of pit bulls," Reardon said. "People think they are edgy, so you have to do a lot of myth-busting."


Sad but true. Most people including many horsemen think of former racehorses as crazy speed demons. The truth is, most settle into new jobs quite well.
