Satisfaction-Rolling Stones Lyrics (HD)

From what I have seen of Tom in the book The Great Gatsby he seems to be searching for what he had during his time at oxford when he was very successful at football. Because of this overarching quality that expresses itself in multiple ways I picked Satisfaction by The Rolling Stones for his theme song. “I can’t get no satisfaction” sums up his search for some fulfillment and satisfaction in things that he can buy and acquire. He has everything he could possibly want and yet he still wants more. Even right after he marries Daisy he is on to having an affair with someone else. He has moved all across the country and to other countries restlessly trying to find someplace that will bring him back to the pinnacle of his life that has already happened and can never be reached again. This makes it hard for others to want to be around him as seen in the book he has quite the temper and much more strength than is good for those around him. Those who don’t stand clear can be hurt by him accidentally including Myrtle who gets her nose broken when Tom slaps her across the face over a small disagreement.

I agree that Tom is searching for something special.  Tom is not satisfied with what he has and he won't get it with that temper of his.  His temper is probley what caused Wilson to be suspious of his wife when she came home with a bruised nose.  I think your song is a good way of talking about Tom's personality.  Having an affair with someone elses while married is wrong and bad for moral.  Tom shouldn't have hurt Myrtle like that then she would still be alive if her husband didn't suspect anything.  Tom is a shelfish man and it does make it hard for others to be around him acepate when around Nick.  Nick knows to avoid making Tom angry.

EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE Lyrics - POLICE

EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE Lyrics - POLICE | the great gatsby | Scoop.it

Police Every Breath You Take lyrics : Every breath you take And every move you make Every bond you break, every step you take I'll be watching you Every single day And every word you say Every game you play, every night you stay I'll be watching you Oh can't you see You belong to How my poor heart aches Wtih every step you take Every move you make And every vow you break Every smile you fake, every claim you stake I'll be watching you Since you've gone I been lost without a trace I dream at night I can only see your face I look around but it's you I can't replace I feel so cold and I long for your embrace I keep crying baby, baby, please Oh can't you see You belong to me How my poor heart aches With every step you take Every move you make And every vow you break Every smile you fake, every claim you stake I'll be watching you Every move you make, every step you take I'll be watching you I'll be watching you (Every breath you take, every move you make) (Every bond you break, every step you take) I'll be watching you (Every single day, every word you say) (Every game you play, every night you stay) I'll be watching you (Every breath you take, every move you make) (Every bond you break, every step you take) I'll be watching you (Every single day, every word you say) (Every game you play, every night you stay) I'll be watching you (Every move you make, every vow you break) (EVery smile you fake, every claim you stake) I'll be watching you  I picked this song for the the theme song for Gatsby because he is watching Daisy.  He and Daisy had an afffair 5 years ago until Gatsby left for WWI and Daisy married Tom.  Gatsby was heartbroken that Daisy had left him and made himself rich so he could win her back.  He saw her through a green becaon and knew it was her and watched her.  He tried to have Nick bring Daisy over so he could he see her again.  When they did see ech other they began their relationship anew.  He hopes to go back in time to marry her.  Daisy doesn't know Gatsby comes from a family lower than her own.  Tom and Daisy went to Gatsby's party and Daisy only had a good time with Gatsby alone on the porch.  Tom suspects Gatsby of bootleging.  Nick says no.  With Daisy having an affair with Gatsby she doesn't mind that Tom is having affairs with other women.

The Jazz Age

In 1920's America - known as the Jazz Age, the Golden Twenties or the Roaring Twenties - everybody seemed to have money.  I think the reason why everybody had money was because of their invesements in the stock market and some people smuggled wine throughout the country.  I think name Jazz Age comes from the fact that jazz music was popular during the 1920's.  Having money allowed people to buy the latest products from stores and were the newest fashions.  I think everyone was happy during the 1920's some racial tensions were removed about African Americans.  The article talks about woman suffrage which I think means the right to vote.  I do belive the Jazz Age was a time of great prosperity for everyone in the United States.

Voters in NY, NJ not deterred by storm's effects

Voters in NY, NJ not deterred by storm's effects | the great gatsby | Scoop.it

"Turnout was high, despite the hurdles, as people set aside their worries to cast their ballots." In the east cost people still voted desptie Sandy's hurdles.  The hurdles they overcame is like Gatsby's hurdles to get what he wanted.  Gatsby wanted Daisy back as his love and had to go through many hurdles to find and claim her.  He lost her when he was stuck in England and she had married Tom.  He looked for her but couldn't find her and so he moved to New York.  In New York he set up his rich life in hopes of trying to impress if he found her.  He find her through a green light that he sees at the end of the dock and knows its her.  He watches her in hopes of one day to bring her back.  When he finds out Nick is relative of Daisy, he has Nick ask Daisy to tea so he could see her.  When she shows up alone he comes and sees her and they recenize each other.  Its akward at first for they haven't seen each other in a long time.  Evenulaty they start loving each other again.  When Tom and Daisy come to Gatsby's party they don't enjoy execpt when Daisy is alone with Gatsby on the porch.  When Daisy tells Tom she never loved him he is upset and Gatsby asks her to leave with him but is an emothinal wreck for she is torn between her love for Gatsby and Tom expossing Gatsby as the kind of person he is.  When Nick talks to Gatsby about the crash he finds out Daisy was driving yet Gatsby will take the blame for it.  In voting or in love their are many hard hurdles to overcome to get what they want.

book burning - Bing Images

book burning - Bing Images | the great gatsby | Scoop.it

I think the buring of books is wrong and should be stoped.  You are allowed to read what you want and people don't have the power to stop you execpt your parents in the classroom.  In the library we heard that people burned books that they thought were innopropeate but that wasn't much of a reason to burn it.  Books are meant to be enjoyed by everyone and books in the library shouldn't be removed even they are trying to be good parents.  They happen because people go along with it without questioning the reason.  Parents can do it in classroom because it involves only one student and the teacher can give them a different asssingment.  Book burning is moraly wrong for people to do and takes away their reading rights.  I think the book buring simpolizes the fear of others and how nobody says anything to stop it.  They burn the books without thinking how this will affect people and whithout even reading the whole thing.  Books are great peices of litature that shouldn't be destroyed.  Even though books don't speak people do and they are sad that good peices of litature are burned or thrown away.  People who do it are plain cruel even if they are trying to protect children.  When the books are burned they are gone forever and can't be read again.  Everybody has likes and dislikes but they can't get rid of something they dislike.  Everyone likes books and they can't be burned for unknown reasons and people shouldn't go along with the idea of book buring because its disrespectful to others and the books.  Libraries are places where everybody can find something to read and the books there shouldn't be taken away to be destroyed by other people.  School libraries do check to see if certain books with reading levels are in the right school level that's appropaite.  It's important that children read all kinds of books.  Taking them away is wrong and they don't learn what's in the book.  I think book burning is bad its not as bad as book banning which doesn't publish any books that they think is wrong to read.

the great american dream - Bing Images

the great american dream - Bing Images | the great gatsby | Scoop.it

The great American dream is a dream that everyone has.  A dream is a goal that you want to follow and make it come true.  I have a dream to become a teacher one day.  To accomplish I have to do what everyone else has done to accomplish their dreams which is study, work, and follow through.  It takes time and patenice to make your dream a reality.  In the Great Gatsby their dream is to live a rich life with your spouse.  For the characters in the story they had to be well known, come from a rich family, and a big job that pays a lot of money.  My dream is differnt from the dream of the characters of the story because my dream has nothing to do with money, love, or religous values.  The characters have rules about where they belong in society and how to spend their money.  In the new American dream people don't care about social classes or how much wealth they have.  They care more about taking care of their famlies, than their money.  They book has two different sides on the dream.  One side has new money and rude maners in parties.  The other side has old money, more polite, and racist.  Unlike the book today's dreams have to do with what kind of job they want to have.  While in the story, people are showing off their money by having parties and giving friends jobs.  The get jobs that are not in their intrests but jobs that will help them make a lot of money and live a fancy life.  Gatsby has a dream of winning back Daisy through something that is mysterious and probably something bad.  Love is a good dream but it should be earned by knowing someone that has a lot in common with you.
