Falcon's barely beat the Seahawks in close playoff match.

Falcon's barely beat the Seahawks in close playoff match. | The Grand Slam | Scoop.it
Jack Mullin's insight:

After watching a close Raven's win thanks to their kicker, it looks like history repeats itself. The Falcon's, who were playing the Seahawks in a playoff match won by the toes on Matt Bryant's foot. The game looked like a blowout by the first half, Falcon's winning 20-0 but this did not stop Rusell Wilson, the rookie quarterback. The Seahawks finally got back into the game with three consecutive touchdowns with less than a minute left. The Falcon's drove and kciked a field goal with eigt seconds left. This shattered all of the Seahawk players and fans. With only eight seonds left, the Seahwks could not pull off a spectacular win and were defeated. Even though the Seahawks lost, this was still a great game with loads of action. Luckily, Matt Bryant was able to nail a 49 yard field goal for the win. Both quarterbacks played great games with nuermous passing yards. The Falcon's migth have won this week, but they have a tough week ahead, facing the tough 49'ers. This game was especially important for Matt Ryan because this was his first post-season win on the Falcons. Ryan has been win the Falcon's since 2008 but never won in the post-season. This game was similar to the Bronco's versus Raven's game, both games being decided by a last second field goal. Even though the Seahawks lost, rookie Russel Wilson played a spectacular season and postseason year.

Lockout over! NHL is back!

Lockout over! NHL is back! | The Grand Slam | Scoop.it
Jack Mullin's insight:

After 113 days of waiting, the lockout had finally ended and the NHL is back. The lockout ahd started on September 15, 2012 and ended on January 6, 2013. The lockout had satretd because of an agreeement of money that could not be reached. This had disspaointed many fans and many players. During the time of no hockey, players traveled to leagues in Europe and in North America to play at least some hockey. The usual NHL season is 82 games, but because of the lockout this year's season was cut short. This year's season is 48 games. Even though many fans are dissapointed about the half season, they are happy that they get to watch some hockey. Hoceky training camps opened this weekend on Saturday and Sunday. The first official NHL game is on Saturday, January 19th. Numerous teams play on Saturday with their season openers. Other big losses to the season was the cancellation of the Winter Classics. This event was cancelled due to the lockout, but is luckily going to be ready for the 2013 season. As fans desperately wait for the season to start in a short few days, players are even more desperately waiting to get back into the groove of the. Let's hope that no more lockouts will occur that will cut out valuable hokcey games.

All Star Knick Carmelo Anthony Suspended One Game

All Star Knick Carmelo Anthony Suspended One Game | The Grand Slam | Scoop.it
Jack Mullin's insight:

On Monday night, a heated game of basketball between the Knicks and the Celtics got even more heated when physical altercations between Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Garnett started. The altercations happened late in the 4th quarter when both players were frustrated with each other. After pushing and shoving, both players got techinical fouls. This tension got even worse after. Words were excahnged but nothing too serious. At the end of the game, the final score being 102-96, Celtics coming out victorious, Carmelo Anthony waited by the Celtics team bus to "talk" with Kevin. The day after, the GM of the NBA suspended Carmelo for inappropriate behavior. Carmelo was annoyed with this decision because he felt he did nothing wrong. He just wanted to talk one on one with Kevin Garnett.  This suspension was big because the Knicks ended losing the game Carmelo Anthony was out of.

This article summarizes the altercation between Kevin Garnett and Carmelo Anthony on January 9th. I agree with the content in the article, but might I add, it was very idiotic of the two to be involved in such a minor mishap. It was taken much too far when Carmelo waited by the Celtic team bus to "talk." I would love this career to report on first hand altercations between players, because taking an active role is important while reporting in sports. There are no missing pieces to this reflection. It seems as that Jack has covered everything that went on between Garnett and Anthony.

Yankees Closer "Mo" confident to play in 2013

Yankees Closer "Mo" confident to play in 2013 | The Grand Slam | Scoop.it
Jack Mullin's insight:

Ever since 1997, Mariano "Mo" Rivera has been the yankees closer. Mariano Rivera has won 5 World Series rings in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2009. Mo, up until early 2012 had been closing ever year for teh Yankees. unfortunately, Rivera had gotten injuried during the 2012 season during batting practice. Rivera had torn his ACL and had been out for the whole season. There were even talks about Mariano never returning to pitch ever again. Signs of Marino Rivera getting better indictes that he will most likely to pitch for the 2013 season. Mariano feels better and has been under intense care to help his torn ACL. Mariano claims, "I don't want to go out like this. Not this way." This motivated Mariano to heal and play for the next year. Hopefully, Mariano gets better and is able to pitch another great season in the  new year.

Stunning rookie RG3 tears LCL in playoff game.

Stunning rookie RG3 tears LCL in playoff game. | The Grand Slam | Scoop.it
Jack Mullin's insight:

The Washington Redskins have not been known for their stellar performances in recent years. This year, everything had changed for them. Having second round pick in the draft was key to their success, picking super star Robert Griffin the 3rd. The superstar was a quarterback at Baylor and was drafted in the first round by the Redskins. RG3 was a star, bringing the Redskins to the playoffs. He had defeated nuemrous great teams and won his final game in a win they needed to advance to the playoffs. In the first round of the playoffs, RG3 and the Redskins were playing the Seahawks, another team witha a rookie quarterback. The game had been close until the Seahawks took a late lead in the fourth. RG3, battling to bring the Redskins back into the game, hurt his knee badly on a bad snap. RG3 was taken out and the Redskins had been defeated. Later, fans had heard that RG3 had a partially torn lateral collateral ligament on his right knee. This knee had already been a problem for Robert but never this bad. This injury also caused problems with his ACL. Robert was going to get surgery for his right knee this week to try and heal this bad knee. This surgery had scared many fans and coaches. RG3 will hopefully be strong enought to play in the 2013 season to try and bring his team back to the playoffs for redemption.

the goal of this article is to explain Robert Griffin III's right knee injury in detail. I agree with every aspect of the article. It is clear, concise, and very accurate. I can understand everything written. I would definitely want this career, since I am very into sports and what news it has to offer; It really entertains me. After reading Jack's insight there isn't anything else I would add to it. He clearly describes how Griffin's injury happened, what part of the knee it was in, and what will happen as a result of the injury.

Ravens soar past the Broncos in an intense overtime playoff match.

Ravens soar past the Broncos in an intense overtime playoff match. | The Grand Slam | Scoop.it
Jack Mullin's insight:

The stadium was roaring, the air below freezing, and the fans were ready to watch their Denver Broncos play the Baltimore Ravens in Mile High Stadium. The game started with a great punt return for 90 yards by Denver to get the crowd roaring. The Ravens responded with a 59 yard touchdown to quiet the crowd. The score went back and forth, one team scoring, and the other team responding with a touchdown. The score at halftime was 21-21. Again touchdown after touchdown until the fourth quarter when Peyton Manning threw a beautiful throw to Demaryius Thomas for the touchdown. Thousnads of Bronco fans were up on their feet, thinking they were movign on with 7 minutes left in the game. The Ravens had drove, did not score and punted it back. Now it was up to Baltimore's defense to hold Peyton Manning. With no timeouts left, the Ravens had stopped Denver with a minute and seventeen seconds left. It was not looking for teh Ravens, bit they did not give up. With thrity seconds left, Joe Flacco desperately chucked the ball down to Jacoby Jones, who amazingly caught it over two Broncos, and ran it in for a 70 yeard score. The stadium went silent. It was going into overtime. The Ravens won the call, drove and punted it away. These no sore drives happened numerous times for both teams until the Ravens picked off Peyton Manning. The Ravens were not in field goal range yet, but drove until they were close enough. They were stopped and sent out Justin Tucker. Flashbacks of last years playoffs were on everybody's mind, but this time, their rookie kicker Justin Tucker nailed the 48 yard field goal for the win. This put and end to the Bronco's eleven game win streak and their chacnes of winning the superbowl.

Longtime Yankee Nick Swisher signed to the Indians?

Longtime Yankee Nick Swisher signed to the Indians? | The Grand Slam | Scoop.it
Jack Mullin's insight:

Going to a Yankees game is not nearly the same unless you sit in the bleachers. The bleachers are the best to sit in becuase of the roll call done by the "Bleacher Creatures" started by Nick Swisher. The right-fielder started the roll call which is a chant done by the fans in the bleachers. The bleachers chant a players name and the player does a gesture to acknowledge the chant. Unfortunately, this will not be the same without the founder Nick Swisher who was just signed to the Cleveland Indians. Swisher had played for the Yankees since 2009. Swishers contract had expired and the Yankees did not resign him, but the Indians picked him up in a heart beat. Nick had asked for too much money and the Yankee's just could not spend taht much money. Swisher, who might not be playing with the Yankees, but still is making a hefty 4-year 56 million dollar contract. Lets hope Swisher has better luck in Cleveland than his rather long slumps in New York.
