Mark Creswick's son Harley has Duchenne muscular dystrophy.The family have established Harley's Fight Foundation, and are campaigning to improve care both in Yorkshire and across the UK, and to raise vital funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.

Abbi's family has launched a campaign to raise awareness about the condition and to raise money to enable the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign to help other parents and continue ground-breaking research.

Following the news that ramps used to help disabled people board trains during the London 2012 Games will remain in place for the next few months while TfL reviews the benefits, Sulaiman for our Trailblazers reflects on how this improvement to access has impacted on him:

 

“In the last eight weeks I have used the tube to go to Stratford at least 20 times. In the six years prior to that I used it maybe once or twice a year. So the ramp has made a huge difference to my life.”

Good luck to Bristol's finest, Khurm Arshad, as he carries the Paralympic torch through the City of London today. Khurm was nominated by his brothers, Usi and Auzair. Auzair has the muscle-wasting condition, Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

"Over the last four years, Khurm has campaigned for investment in life-saving specialist care for people with muscle wasting conditions, and was fundamental to securing £1million worth of funding from South West NHS leaders for expert healthworkers and treatments."

'Forcing disabled people to call premium rate numbers to book tickets is simply  unjustifiable.' 


Bobby Ancil from the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign's Trailblazers commenting on yesterday's Mail on Sunday investigation. The article revealed that those trying to book wheelchair tickets for Paralympic events have to ring an 0844 number in order to buy tickets or check availability.

Scores of celebrities have thrown their weight behind a family's £500,000 auction to help a 3-year-old with a rare condition.

 

Paul and Angela from Bury St Edmunds are holding an online charity auction to help their three-year-old nephew Dan after he was diagnosed with Ullrich muscular dystrophy, and have been inundated by lots donated from some of the UK's biggest stars to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.

Muscular Dystrophy Campaign's Trailblazers, a national network of young disabled people who campaign for improved facilities and services, have launched a new nationwide campaign to champion grassroots sport and fitness opportunities. Game On is being backed by London Mayor Boris Johnson, who said:

 

"Every Londoner deserves to reap the positive legacy of our wonderful 2012 Games and that means inclusivity and accessibility is a key priority. I fully support the work of the Trailblazers and the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign in this area."

Ronnie’s daughter, Ruth, got in touch with us to tell us a little bit about her dad’s struggle with muscular dystrophy which, alongside other related neuromuscular conditions, affects almost 70,000 people in the UK.    

 

Her dad now finds it difficult to walk for long periods unaided, however, last month he decided to complete a sponsored walk across all of the bridges of Inverness (his hometown) in the hope he would raise some money for the ‘Muscular Dystrophy Campaign’. Ronnie crossed a total of 8 bridges and as you can imagine, he found it pretty tough.
