Douro cycle tour to raise 25k for charity | The Douro Index |

A team of 14 cyclists from the UK wine trade are to ride over 600km along the Douro river for drinks industry charity The Benevolent. Dubbed the Tour of the Douro, the ride will begin in Rioja’s Haro and continue along the Duero and in to Portugal, where the peloton will follow the same river – now called the Douro – until it reaches Regua, in the heart of the Douro Valley, where the challenge will finish. The group of cyclists are hoping to complete the route in just four days from 10-14 June, and have set themselves a fundraising target of £25,000 for The Benevolent.

Among the riders on the Tour of the Douro are the WSET’s Ian Harris, Mentzendorff’s Andrew Hawes and Taylor’s Adrian Bridge.
