LIVINGSTON COUNTY – A professional jet-ski racer and business owner pled guilty to possession of child pornography on Tuesday.

After an emotion
emily gorzynski's insight:

Meet my friend Derek.  Derek was arrested for possession of child pornography in June of 2014 and found guilty in December of 2014.  In his guilty plea he stated "With the evolution of the internet, access to pornography is an issue that needs to be addressed at some point" and that's what inspired me to curate this Scoop. It about the deep web and accessibility and prevalence of child pornography sharing.  I hope for Derek it's not too late to save him and for the community to understand what kind of evil lives right in front of our noses.

emily gorzynski's insight:

This is the website where users can download TOR, the software which people can use to access and explore the deep web.  The purpose for TOR is so people can browse the Internet without fear of privacy being lost.  In my opinion, if you aren't doing anything wrong then you shouldn't be afraid of your own browsing habits.

To Bust a Giant Porn Ring, Did the FBI Crack the Dark Web? | Motherboard | The Deep Web | Scoop.it
Has law enforcement cracked the Tor network?
emily gorzynski's insight:

This article got me wondering if companies like Mozilla could create TOR servers in order to help the government infiltrate  the deep web.  The glitch in the system that lead to cyber attacks on these servers could be intention?  But I can't count on Mozilla and companies like them to go vigilante- though it would be nice.

Paedophiles Have Created A Deep Web Version Of Kickstarter To Crowdfund Child Porn

Paedophiles Have Created A Deep Web Version Of Kickstarter To Crowdfund Child Porn | The Deep Web | Scoop.it
Peadophiles are upset about child porn piracy.
emily gorzynski's insight:

This article was by far the most disturbing yet.  Pedophiles who are users on the dark web have created a website much like Kickstarter.com that allows them to crowd fund.  The reason why this was created was to help prevent piracy among the community by having user pitch in bitcoin in exchange for the videos.  It is mind blowing to me that these users are upset about their images being "stolen" or pirated when the videos were made illegally doing unspeakable acts.  To top it off the "we care" section of this website encourages producers to pay their children "fair wages" so they can go to college. Really?

Censoring the Web Isn't the Solution to Terrorism or Counterfeiting. It's the Problem.

Censoring the Web Isn't the Solution to Terrorism or Counterfeiting. It's the Problem. | The Deep Web | Scoop.it
In politics, as with Internet memes, ideas don't spread because they are good—they spread because they are good at spreading.

emily gorzynski's insight:

His article has an interesting point of view, one that takes time and care to execute. This author believes that governments need to start tackling the problems of the web instead of censoring it. Are we about to go into a moral overhaul in our modern society here on earth? It may be our only chance.
