Culture is the key interviews: "Most people underestimate the meaning of culture in their lives" - Martin Krammer

Culture is the key interviews: "Most people underestimate the meaning of culture in their lives" - Martin Krammer | The Culture Creative Industries (CCI) | Scoop.it
In advance to this year's Forum d'Avignon Ruhr with the title Culture is the key LABKULTUR asked creative heads and leaders from the areas of culture, politics and economy three questions.
Vina's insight:

Excerpt:

The difference from this to a culture- or creativity- driven economy is that success not only is expressed in monetary rewards. Attention, social purpose, intellectual recognition, etc. become as part of the system as it is financial independence. This is a system that might even neglect growth as it is focussed on a more inverted point of view. One can say quality (of life) replaces speed (of means) - Purpose in life is the new black!

Love it! ==>> "PURPOSE IN LIFE IS THE NEW BLACK!" <<== Too cool! :)

Do the creative industries get the financial support they need?

Do the creative industries get the financial support they need? | The Culture Creative Industries (CCI) | Scoop.it
Are the creative industries receiving the support they should?
Vina's insight:

Excerpt:

“The problem is that in the creative industries none of the assets show up on a balance sheet,” says Craig Williams, who chairs ICAEW’s Entertainment and Media Group. “The finance industry doesn’t know how to read the creative industries’ accounts, and financiers don’t understand intellectual property rights.

“The other issue is that there is no consistency of disclosure of intellectual property – there are no standards to show how this is proscribed.”

One of the issues that frightens off the money men is not only that uncertainty between a hit and a miss, but the speed at which investors need to get a return on their money. Most creative projects need proportionally vast investment to get off the ground.

First Yunnan Cultural Industries Expo creates huge business

First Yunnan Cultural Industries Expo creates huge business | The Culture Creative Industries (CCI) | Scoop.it
Vina's insight:

Excerpt:

Many folk arts and crafts producers saw a great potential market at the expo. In the silver-inlaid black copper booth, Jin Yongcai was not only busy receiving customers, but also discussing business with dealers from Sichuan and Shandong. "I sold pieces worth a total of 130,000 yuan these days. My marketing strategy needs to change. In the past, sales were not good mainly because the event was largely unknown to the people. As I hosted exhibits elsewhere over the past three years, sales have increased. I will go to Geneva to promote this August," he said.

Graz - City of Design

Vina's insight:

Excerpt:

Design is a word easily worn out, if used for everything. A City of Design must be particularly aware of this fact and feel obliged to use the term diligently. Its aim is to create an increased awareness of “good design” amongst people who will come to value its benefits. Because, at the end of the day, design serves the people.
