My favourist suggestions...8) Speak up and 10) Focus on your contribution.  All too often, we worry that people will judge us and this fear is rarely justified.  By putting this fear aside and focussin on the positive contribution we can make rather than how we're feeling, you're tkaing the first steps in building your confidence at work.

4 Quick Confidence Boosters For Freelance Trainers

4 Quick Confidence Boosters For Freelance Trainers | The Confidence Clinic | Scoop.it
One of the big differences between the freelance and the corporate world is being on your own. It’s fantastic to have that freedom to take decisions and do what you want to do but you don’t get the regular office banter and team meetings that can be such a great source of encouragement and support. Having other people around you can sometimes propel you to take action when you’re not sure what to do. When you are the business you can sometimes end up just worrying and doing nothing!

Here are some quick tips on how to boost your confidence:

1. Recognise your achievements. Hence my question on Trainer Talk, ‘What have you achieved this week?’. It can sometimes be really easy to overlook what you’ve achieved in a week or to dismiss it as being insignificant. Every phone call you’ve made, every new contact you’ve met, every article you’ve written…. they are all important as potentially they are all activities that are going to get you nearer to landing a new piece of business. So get into the habit of celebrating your successes, however small.

2. Seek feedback and testimonials. Evidence that you have done a really good job is obviously an important marketing tool and will help you to attract clients but it’s just as vital for your own confidence and self-esteem. Some years ago someone told me about a notice board she kept in her office where she pinned up all the nice comments people had made about her training. I thought what a great idea it was and took it on board myself – and it works!

3. Stop comparing yourself to others. It’s natural to look around at what other people are doing but all too often I hear people say things like:

- She always seems to have loads of work

- Their website is so much better than mine

- He’s earning twice as much as me and he’s only been doing it five minutes

These feelings are normal but they are not really serving you and will just eat away at your self confidence. All of the above may or may not be true but what does it matter?

Concentrate on yourself and your own business. Recognise your own uniqueness. It’s not a competition and I firmly believe there’s more than enough work to go around for all of us to share in!

4. Be proactive and open to opportunities. Don’t wait for things to happen, make them happen! This week I sent out an associate opportunity to one of the trainers on my list. It involved a tender so I explained to her that ultimately it might not lead to work. However, even if it didn’t it was a great opportunity as once a connection has been made between her and this particular training company you never know what it may lead to.

I’d love to have your comments and tips on what you do to give yourself a boost!

The inner critic « Psychologies

The inner critic « Psychologies | The Confidence Clinic | Scoop.it

I was standing in a changing room the other day, struggling to get into a dress. It was one of those changing rooms in which high-street stores seem to delight – the fat mirror imported from the funfair, the harsh overhead light that picks out every dimple of cellulite. You know the ones? I guess every woman does.

So I’m looking at myself and saying, ‘You’re so fat. Your arms are disgusting and that jelly roll around your middle is revolting.’ Now, if somebody had walked into that changing room and said those words to me, I would probably have decked them with a swift right hook. But me saying it to me? I averted my eyes and said humbly, ‘Yes, you’re right.’

I can turn into a bully at the blink of an eye. One glance in a shop window and that mocking inner critic kicks into action, sneering at me like a kid in a playground. Some days, she simmers down a bit, and I can look in the mirror and think, ‘Huh, not bad’, but it doesn’t take much to upset her and she’s off again.

Some people call this kind of behaviour low self-esteem. I call it normal, in as much as I don’t know one woman who doesn’t possess it. Or man, for that matter, although it tends not to be changing rooms that set them off.

I wouldn’t dream of saying to my friends what I say to myself. I love my friends. I love their frailties and vulnerabilities, their lumps and bumps, the bits they hate about themselves. I love all the things that make them who they are. I am kind to them, and they are kind to me, in a way that we are all too rarely kind to ourselves.

Build Confidence with the Weight Loss Guru

Build Confidence with the Weight Loss Guru | The Confidence Clinic | Scoop.it
Ian Banyard's insight:

Although it may seem like you’ve never been confident, you were actually born feeling great about yourself. You didn’t know any other way of being. You didn’t know what confidence was – or that you could lose it. You had no idea about self-esteem or what it meant to be self-conscious. You didn’t care what you looked like or what other people thought of you: you didn’t judge yourself and you also didn’t judge anybody else. You were just at ease in your own skin. If you find this hard to believe, just watch a child who is less than three years old.

Building Confidence

Building Confidence | The Confidence Clinic | Scoop.it

When you DO something you get one of two outcomes:

1. You are successful. So you build self confidence. Each time you create success you build a little more confidence.

2. You fail or get embarrassed…But you don’t die. The act of “doing and not dying” also increases your self-confidence.

So, the bottom line: The only way to build self-confidence is by DOING.
