Kim Alexander's insight:

This web page is the first one I've come across to consider disease as a cause to the downfall of this society. Not sure if it is entirely true, but it would be interesting to try to find in a scholarly source.

Lottiefultz's curator insight, April 19, 2014 2:13 AM

Earthquakes are now said to contributing factors to the collapse of civilizations specifically the  Harappan civilization. Some archaeologists believe this because the former harppan land is still earthquake active.

vanessa ortiz's curator insight, April 25, 2014 6:38 PM

This article talks about the possibility of earthquakes being the reason behind the collapse of ancient civilizations.  I found this theory very interesting because I did not know there are earthquake faults in the middle east.

World History: Egypt: The Old Kingdom

World History: Egypt: The Old Kingdom | The Collapse of Ancient Egypt and the Harappans | Scoop.it
Egypt: The Old Kingdom. Egypt was once thought to be the location of the earliest civilization. The father of history, Herodotus, certainly thought so. He wrote of an encounter with Egyptian priests during the 5th century B.C.

Andreina Ruiz's curator insight, January 28, 2014 11:36 PM

I actually thought that Egypt was the location of the earliest civilization. Egypt is known as the land of the hebrews' slavery and Menelaus' exile after the long Trojan War. Egypt is a country that contains so much history and architecture to be told.

Lottiefultz's curator insight, April 19, 2014 1:15 AM

It is believed that Egypt was not the first location of civilization. The Sumerians were said to be the first people/location of civilization.

Xochithl Barragan's curator insight, May 16, 2014 1:17 PM

This is a blog that talks about the Egyptian Old Kingdom's history. They mention that many thought Egypt was the place where the first civilizations were created.

Climate Change Led to Collapse of Ancient Indus Civilization, Study Finds : Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution | The Collapse of Ancient Egypt and the Harappans | Scoop.it
A new study combining the latest archaeological evidence with state-of-the-art geoscience technologies provides evidence that climate change was a key ingredient in the collapse of the great Indus or Harappan Civilization almost 4000 years ago. The study also resolves a long-standing debate over the source and fate of the Sarasvati, the sacred river of Hindu mythology.

This page claims that climate change is the cause of the fall of the Harappans. However no one knows for certain what caused the collapse of this society.
