Guglielmo Marconi was actually very interested in the idea of long-range communication to Canada. He accepted Canada's help, and decided to set up a station at Glace Bay on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.  This location is now a National Historic Site of Canada.

Robert Samuel McLaughlin story is one that truly represents hard work, dedication, and passion. He was the son of Robert McLaughlin, who's company was the largest manufacturer of horse-drawn buggies.  Using an engine from Buick, he managed to create a car, allowing the McLaughlin Motor Car Company to be born. He soon became the president of the General Motors of Canada. After retiring in 1945, he remained as chairman until  his death in 1972. Being an avid philantropist, McLaughlin donated almost $200 million to numerous causes. In honour of his great legacy, a college at York University has been named McLaughlin College.

He also designed Canada's first postage stamp, and was an avid surveyor. Though born in Scotland, Sir Sanford Fleming is marked as a Canadian.

Since then, it has become a worldwide tool for communication amongst police offficers, the military, and for simple recreation purposes. Little did we know that two Canadian inventors named Donald Hings and Alfred Gross contributed to this invention.
