Vivek Sood's insight:

In my book 'The 5-STAR Business Network' there is whole chapter on how the cutting edge big data applications can help optimise the pricing to a highly customised level based on very close understanding of a customer - almost akin to a village shopkeeper's understanding of each and every customer who comes to him from the village.

How Are People Really Using LinkedIn?

How Are People Really Using LinkedIn? | The 5-STAR Business Network | Scoop.it

Professional networking service LinkedIn blasted through the 100-million-user mark in March, making it even more powerful for finding a job, keeping up with colleagues and promoting your resume.

LinkedIn is growing so quickly, it's adding a new member each second. As the size of its network grows, LinkedIn is steadily getting more useful. But how are people really using the fast-growing service? Researchers at Lab 42 asked 500 LinkedIn users that question and many more, and came up with a variety of answers in this infographic.

Among the fun facts they uncovered: We found it interesting the way top level executives use the service in vastly different ways from entry-level workers. Let us know in the comments how you like to use LinkedIn, or if you don't use the service, why not?...

I'm not all together sure how these stats are arrived at, and a similar visual for Facebook that I came across recently proved to be irrelevant (yes I tested it). As with anything else, I guess it depends upon the type of business you're into.

Brian Hendricks's curator insight, July 16, 2013 2:45 PM

I have found that using ALL social media avenues, as well as blogging, can help with attracting more followers, or "fans", which will eventually lead to potential customers.  Try it and see for yourself.  Remember, be patient, and persistent.   Contact me for more info!

Answers constrain thinking, while questions have the power to open up the promise of what might be possible.

Will BitCoin ever amount to anything more than a bit? | Global Supply Chain Group | The 5-STAR Business Network | Scoop.it

When I wrote my just released book The 5-STAR Business Network I included just one paragraph on Bitcoin, using it as an example of emerging business network of dubious quality. Here is what I wrote in the book:

An interesting phenomenon that is just emerging is online currencies being traded between the informal networks. These go far beyond online payment and clearance systems such as PayPal and serve as crypto-currency. So far these crypto-currency networks such as Bitcoin and its clones are operating at the legal fringes of most economies. Further developments are being watched with interest by the central banks, supra-national bodies and the political economists.

Apple’s Business Network Conundrum: To Dump Samsung or not | Global Supply Chain Group

Apple’s Business Network Conundrum: To Dump Samsung or not | Global Supply Chain Group | The 5-STAR Business Network | Scoop.it

Has Apple learnt the lesson that Dell never learnt?

Apple has grappled with this conundrum for a while now – when, if at all, to dump Samsung? There comes a point in every business network when the erstwhile suppliers become more powerful than the ‘customer’. Dell continued to rely on its suppliers in far east while they were eating his lunch.Look where it landed Dell?

Dell’s supply chain conundrum is not well explained by the market analysts – many of its suppliers are also some of  its biggest competitors. Ten years ago, when Dell was a far bigger company that its much smaller suppliers it Asia, this did not matter much. But they have now copied Dell’s business model to perfection – making its business model redundant. They won market share by under-cuting Dell in the market place, while Dell could not invent a newer business model. No wonder Dell lost the competitve advantage it had created so assidously in the 90s by shrinking the cash-to-cash cycle and building volume.

A Better Method to Outsource and Win - Global Supply Chain Group | The 5-STAR Business Network | Scoop.it
Vivek Sood's insight:

Less that two-thirds of all outsourcing succeed because of the way human brain functions. If the croc-brain takes over the survival instinct kicks in and the decision is purely instinct or emotion based. However, if the modern neo-cortex takes over the decision is purely factual and ignores all else. You NEED to engage all parts of the brain in the decision making process.
