2012 TLA Banned Books Week Display Contest | Tennessee Libraries | Scoop.it

Banned Books Week is celebrating its 30th anniversary, Sept. 30 to Oct. 6 (http://www.ala.org/advocacy/banned/bannedbooksweek and http://www.bannedbooksweek.org/).

 

The TLA Intellectual Freedom Committee is hosting its annual Banned Books Display Contest, and we hope that you will enter! There are two easy steps:

 

1. Take photos of your Banned Books Week display.

 

2. Send the photos, the name of your library, and any other related details to Anthony Prince (aprince1@tnstate.edu) before October 13, 2012. Photos of Banned Books Weeks celebrations will be posted to TLA’s website and Facebook page.

 

As with last year, we want you to vote on Facebook for your favorites (“Like” your favorite display). The TLA Intellectual Freedom committee will also vote on a winner. The winning library receives one full year of bragging rights for having the best display!

SEVIER COUNTY, TN – The Sevier County Public Library System will host the 2012 Genealogy Conference from Thursday, November 1 – Saturday, November 3, 2012. The Genealogy Conference will be held in the SCPLS King Family Library, 408 High Street, in Sevierville.

Organizations and individuals presenting programs during the conference include:


· Old Buncombe County Genealogical Society, NC
· Smoky Mountain Historical Society
· Great Smoky Mountains National Park Archives
· East Tennessee Historical Society
· C.M. McClung Historical Collection (Knox County Public Library System)
· Cocke County Historical Society
· Blount County Genealogical & Historical Society
· Jefferson County Genealogical Society
· Pigeon Forge Public Library
· Gatlinburg Garden Club
· New Salem Church
· Sevier County Archives
· Duay O’Neil – Storytelling


The registration fee for the three-day conference, including the pre-conference, will be $30.00.
