Ben Bolt Continues Hot Summer Nights Concert Series at Blount County Public Library

Ben Bolt Continues Hot Summer Nights Concert Series at Blount County Public Library | Tennessee Libraries | Scoop.it
Tennessee Library Association's insight:

MARYVILLE, TN (July 26, 2013) Ben Bolt, internationally acclaimed guitarist, will continue this year’s Hot Summer Nights concert series at the Blount County Public Library on Thursday, August 8 at 7 p.m. For this concert, he will be returning from a performing tour in Switzerland.

He presently lives in Maryville while caring for his elderly father. He will perform in the Reading Rotunda of the library.

This is the twelfth season for this popular Hot Summer Nights concert series with all performances sponsored by the Blount County Friends of the Library. All concerts are on Thursday evenings in August.

Ben Bolt, classical guitarist, sailed for Spain at the age of only 17 and armed with a plywood classical guitar, determined to study with the “Father of Classical Guitar, Andrés Segovia. Less than three years later, Segovia bestowed a full scholarship to 19-year-old Ben paid out of the Master’s own pocket. Bolt also studied with Abel Carlevaro in Paris and Brazil and with maestro Guido Santorsola in Uruguay.

Performances Full house audiences throughout North and South America are not uncommon. Concerts abroad have taken him across the United States and to Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Porto Allegre, Panama City, Balboa, Cristobel, Quito, Cali, San Jose and most recently to Switzerland in Europe. He has been featured guest soloist with several symphonies including with Swiss conductor, Cornelia Claemmli, British conductor, Kirk Trevor, and New Yorker opera conductor, Brian Salesky. When he appeared with the Knoxville Opera Company in the “Barber of Seville,” he received notable reviews.

“Ben [Bolt] plays with an elegance and emotional commitment that is rare these days. He exudes an Old-World grace, and his playing displays a deep love of the instrument and its traditions,” says William Kaneniser, the founding member of the Grammy award winning Los Angeles Guitar Quartet.

Master Classes World-wide, he has given numerous master classes in conjunction with his concerts. Interestingly enough, though, Bolt’s most prominent students are not known as classical guitarists but have established themselves on major record labels in popular and mainstream rock bands.

Honors As the only guitarist inducted into Delta Omicron as a National Patron, Bolt shares that title with Walt Disney, Luciano Pavarotti and Shinichi Suzuki. He won first place in Montevideo’s “Concurso Internacional Aemus,” and medaled with the St. Andrews Cross, he is a knight of the Ducal Order of the “Cross of Burgundy.” Abel Carlevaro awarded him the coveted medal, “Premio al Mérito” at the National Library of Montevideo.
