The Science of Fat

The Science of Fat | Temple Topics | Scoop.it
If you're anything like over sixty percent of Americans, you've got a few pounds of fat you could stand to lose. If you saw what a pound of body fat actually looks like, you might be double-motivated. Yet there are a ton of misconceptions about fat--some of which could inform mistakes in our weight-loss endeavors. Let's see if we can't cut through some of the misinformation with a little bit of knowledge.

Want to Feel Great in the Morning? Start the Day off Right with a Morning Ritual.

Want to Feel Great in the Morning? Start the Day off Right with a Morning Ritual. | Temple Topics | Scoop.it
I created a morning ritual for myself that not only helped increase my energy levels, but was so nourishing to my body and soul that I actually wanted to get up in the morning to start my day.

Tired of feeling, well, tired in the morning? Yeah, I was too.

It didn’t matter how much sleep I had the night before, I still woke up feeling sluggish, blurry-eyed and plain ol’ tired.

Using my knowledge of nutrition, yoga and ancient Ayurvedic health practices, I created a morning ritual for myself that not only helped increase my energy levels, but was so nourishing to my body and soul that I actually wanted to get up in the morning to start my day.

I find pleasure in committing to a morning ritual. It grounds my mind, energizes my spirit and allows me the quiet time to reflect on and prioritize my day ahead.

Are You Using Proper Form? | Temple Topics | Scoop.it
Proper form is essential for success when training for anything from general fitness to sports events and/or competitions. It is the quality of training that influences your progress, more than the quantity. Time under tension, angle of movement, range of motion, and many other factors all contribute to a particular resistance training session. It is important to understand the proper mechanics of training to get the most benefit from your time.

16 More Reasons Black Seed Is 'The Remedy For Everything But Death'

16 More Reasons Black Seed Is 'The Remedy For Everything But Death' | Temple Topics | Scoop.it
Known since ancient times as a 'remedy for everything but death,' an increasingly vast body of scientific research reveals that it is indeed one of nature's most potent and versatile healing agents.

A year ago, we wrote an article about nigella sativa (aka black seed) titled, 'The Remedy For Everything But Death.' It described the research on the many ways in which black seed (nigella sativa) is a potentially life-saving medicinal food, and is one of our most popular articles, with over 225K social media shares.

Opening with, "This humble, but immensely powerful seed, kills MRSA, heals the chemical weapon poisoned body, stimulates regeneration of the dying beta cells within the diabetic's pancreas, and yet too few even know it exists," the article summarized the peer-reviewed and published research on 10 of the seed's remarkable health benefits:

5 Exercises People Hate, but Why You Should Do Them Anyway: Burpees, Planks, Push Ups

5 Exercises People Hate, but Why You Should Do Them Anyway: Burpees, Planks, Push Ups | Temple Topics | Scoop.it
We really hate to do burpees, planks, push ups and other exercises that really push our limits, but personal trainer Pamela Hernandez tells us why we should love the results these activities deliver.

There are three benefits to hiring a personal trainer. The first is accountability. Having someone waiting on you helps insure you get to the gym. The second is structure. We have enough to think about, letting someone else put together the workout is a huge time saver. The third is having someone who pushes you out of your comfort zone and makes you do the exercises you hate.

Even the most devoted exerciser has at least one exercise they love to hate. We hate it when we’re doing it, but we love the way we feel or look afterwards. I did an informal poll of my clients and came up with the five exercises they love to hate (and why we should all do them anyway).

An Open Letter To Anyone Thinking About Trying Yoga

An Open Letter To Anyone Thinking About Trying Yoga | Temple Topics | Scoop.it

"A student in my class had never done yoga before. He arrived late, and the only space available was in the middle of the tightly packed room, and there was no time to discuss or prepare. I felt that he was struggling as we moved through the practice, and I made some suggestions on modifications to the poses and he kept pushing through. I felt the pushing, but at least he didn’t get up and walk out.

He was courageous enough to stay through the class, but made a quick exit afterwards. Knowing the transformative possibilities of yoga, I wanted to grab him, even shake him, while telling him to wake up and drink the Kool-Aid, but alas he slipped out, and in a moment was gone. I wondered what his story was. I wondered if he'd try yoga again. This experience prompted me to want to write a letter to new students..."
