Google Analytics & Greenhouse: Dee, iPhones and Messages lead the pack

Google Analytics & Greenhouse: Dee, iPhones and Messages lead the pack | TechTalkweekly2 | Scoop.it

For the past several months we have been using Google Analytics to see which pages Greenhills users have been frequenting, their preferred browers and which devices are most popular. Yay data!!!! You won't be surprised to learn that the pages with the most content were also the most viewed. Dee wins the most views for a class with her Unit 5 page. Oh wait! She also wins second and third place as well. The secret to her success? She puts stuff up and tells students to go to the page. For the month of April, in which we had one week of vacation, here are the most viewed pages:

Page Pageviews
greenhills 22,161
messages 18,285
dashboard 1679
messages/new 1417

classes 1276
my_students 918
library 625
dee 472
dee 463

Clearly people are using Greenhouse. 18,285 message views folks! Both parents and students are checking them despite what they might report. Another interesting tidbit is, despite how unmaximized the site is for smartphones, iphones make up 18% of users. Insights from this data will help drive some of the changes with the program next year.

Conferences, unconferences, educamps – Now what? | Powerful Learning Practice

Conferences, unconferences, educamps – Now what? | Powerful Learning Practice | TechTalkweekly2 | Scoop.it

The PD I really need right now

So I got to thinking about what kind of PD I really need at the moment. I’ve been attending conferences and edcamps, what next? Maybe it’s time to take a step back, temporarily, to reflect and put some ideas into action? Here’s what I decided.

I need dedicated time, duh, and not an hour here or there, but a whole day or days.I need to do some pre-sifting of ideas before this dedicated time begins.I need an action-oriented group of colleagues who want to meet and collaborate. A lot.I need a space with good wifi, power sources, and proximity to food, water, and bathrooms.

Greenhouse Improvements Coming

Greenhouse Improvements Coming | TechTalkweekly2 | Scoop.it

Last week Wayne Eaker my co-creator of Greenhouse, met with the Tech Committee to discuss improvements to the platform for next year. I am happy to report that most of your dreams will be coming true! The site will have a total redesign which will make it super easy for you to upload any sort of media to one central location with two clicks!! Larger files and more formats will be possible along with batch uploading.  A mobile version is in the works and users can post pictures from their smart phones. Most exciting ,will be the eportfolio options for students. This is just a portion of what is in store for you. There is still time for you to give us your suggestions. Dream big.

Hello Wayne,
This year I use a lot the uploading possibilities of GH.
My concerns are : will I have to reload every single same file next year since those audio/video files will be used the same way by my AP students?
So far, i did not find (it's probably a silly thing that is available right now ) I don't know how to change the names of the files i have uploaded, can you explain. I'll come back to you with others things. Thanks for your hard work for us,
Cat

Free Technology for Teachers: The New Hive - Build Media Collages

Glogster is slowly eliminating their free offerings, but I understand that they have to make money too. The New Hive could be a good alternative to Glogster. I also like that The New Hive has a little cleaner interface for users to work on. It's still in beta so you'll have to request a trial.
