ANISH KAPOOR Orbit

ANISH KAPOOR Orbit | 3D Building models | Scoop.it

Anish Kapoor's design for the London Orbit Tower, intended to be the dominating structure of the London 2012 Olympic Games, was unveiled earlier this week.

When completed, the structure will stand over 115 meters tall - 22 meters higher than the Statue of Liberty, 19 meters higher than Big Ben, and considerably shy of the Eiffel Tower - the 340 meter high building to which the Orbit is already drawing comparisons.

Kapoor has created numerous well-known sculptures, including Chicago's Cloud Gate. Explaining his inspiration for the design, Kapoor remarked in an interview with the BBC that he wanted to "look again at the whole idea of a tower" replacing its traditional Cartesian lines with something more orbital, with a "flowing, coiling form". Moreover, he hopes "to create a sensation of a certain kind of instability' for the vieweKapoor - Orbit...

Instructions: Building model houses

Instructions: Building model houses | 3D Building models | Scoop.it

1. Take digital pictures of every room in your house, as well as your home's exterior front, back and sides. Print full-page copies of the pictures, and tape them to the wall or a bulletin board for reference.
2. Measure the height and width of each room and the width and length of floors. Write the measurements in the margins of the copies you made. Measure the width of the front, back and side of the house. Don't worry about climbing a ladder to measure the exterior height; you'll use your interior ceiling height measurements.
3. Use your measurements to determine the model size for each room by using a scale of 1/2 inch equals 1 foot. For example, if a room is 8 feet by 12 feet, it would have a model size of 4 inches by 6 inches.
4. Use colored sheets of paper, or print colors and patterns from the Internet that replicate the wall colors for each room. Use clip art to mimic hardwood floors and carpeting. Cut the foam core board for the walls and floors for each room according to your scaled-down measurements. Trace the corresponding wall and floor pieces for each individual room on the colored or printed sheets. Cut the shapes out and use spray adhesive to stick the papers to the foam core board pieces. Tape walls and floors together with invisible tape.
5. Lay a large flat sheet of foam core on top of your work surface. Line the rooms next to each other as they are arranged in your home. Trace around the bottom edges of the room to cut out a base and ceiling piece for each story. Use spray adhesive to connect the walls. Spray the connected room piece to the base. Spray the ceiling piece to connect additional stories.
6. Measure the width and height of the model, now that all stories are connected, to determine the sizes for the front, rear and sides of the model. Cut foam core to your measurements. Find clip art of bricks, siding or stucco to print replicas of the exterior. Use adhesive spray to glue the printouts to the foam core pieces for the exterior. Attach the left side and the front together, and the rear and the right side together with invisible tape, so the units form an L shape. This will allow you to slide the panels away to view the interior.
7. Make a detachable roof by using a tape measure and triangle to determine the dimensions. Cut foam core board pieces accordingly. Attach the front and rear pieces to the triangle by using invisible tape. Find clip art sources to replicate your roof color and pattern. Print and spray glue sheets of printed paper to the foam core pieces. Sit the roof on top of the ceiling for the top story to complete your house model project

Tod’s Omotesando

Tod’s Omotesando | 3D Building models | Scoop.it

GROUP 3: I HOPE YOU WILL FIND THIS INFORMATION USEFUL.

When your project is complete, send your project report, THANKS.
The facade of criss-crossed concrete braces reinterprets the silhouettes of the elm trees lining the street.
The Tod’s building, located on Omotesando, the famous tree-lined avenue in Tokyo’s Aoyama district, is wrapped in a skin of criss-crossed concrete braces and glass that mimics the trees lining the street.
Light enters the building through the clear glass that fills the gaps between the concrete braces on the north side frontal facade. Opaque glass towards the south, facing rows of low private houses, brings additional daylight into the building.
The concrete braces also serve as space dividers inside the building where the natural materials, stone, wood and leather, reflect the quality of Tod's leather goods.
“Despite this apparent minimalism, Tod's displays none of the sombreness and intellectual snobbery that typifies much contemporary retail architecture. There is a lightness of touch with Ito, a humour, and far greater sense of the drama of shopping.”

Construction of the 600,000 square meter project began in September 2004 on the 20 hectare site of an abandoned motorcycle factory in Beijing’s new Central Business District. After connecting the two leaning towers in December 2007 and topping out structural steel works this March, the CCTV building is due for completion end of 2009, whilst the adjacent Television Cultural Centre (TVCC), including the hotel operated by Mandarin Oriental is expected to open early next year. The third building on the site, the circular service building, is in operation and is presently being used for broadcasting of the Olympic Games.

Forgotten wonders of the Sydney Opera House | BrandCulture Communications | 3D Building models | Scoop.it
A couple of weeks ago Stephen Minning and Gordon Eckel (our Artistic Director and Business Director) were taking a client to Cafe Sydney.

The lift proceeded to level 3 where they saw and enjoyed this wonderful model of the Opera House “The Crystal Palace”

Like a giant jigsaw… The Opera House model was built by the late Bill Lambert has a total of 2500 pieces and was based on 8000 detailed drawings. Mr Lambert, who died in 1988, was a model-making genius. Joern Utzon (architect of The Sydney Opera House) designed the Opera House in 1966, and Mr Lambert was commissioned by the Department of Public Works to build a perfect miniature of Mr Utzon’s masterpiece.
