Fresh For Kids - Fun Games, Activities and Healthy Fruit and Vegetable Recipes!

Fresh For Kids - Fun Games, Activities and Healthy Fruit and Vegetable Recipes! | Technology in Education for Lower Primary | Scoop.it
Find lots of games, funny jokes, recipes and activities to help kids eat healthy fresh fruit and vegetables and show them how sport can be fun!
Ashley McNamara's insight:

When I first clicked on this website I thought wow! It is vey colourful, looks interesting and has been set out in a manageable way. There is information for teachers and canteen staff including teaching resources, signs and ideas for the canteen. The parent section provides information on healthy eating and recipes, while there is a specific section for the children which provides games and activities to complete. The section I find the most interesting is that of fruit and vegetables. This tab displays information on all the fruit and vegetables available, information on the ripening of these and nutritional information. This would be great website for use in the foundation to year two levels where students are required to: Explore how plants and animals are grown for food, clothing and shelter and how food is selected and prepared for healthy eating (ACTDEK003) . The selecting and preparing sections of this content descriptor would work well with this website and would help students to improve their understanding of healthy eating.

| BrainPOP JR Topic | Reduce, Reuse, Recycle | Technology in Education for Lower Primary | Scoop.it
Ashley McNamara's insight:

Learning how to reduce, reuse and recycle allows students to understand ways to help keep the environment clean both at school and at home. This website could be used to teach the foundation to year two content descriptor found in the technologies curriculum: Identify how people design and produce familiar products, services and environments and consider sustainability to meet personal and local community needs (ACTDEK001). It would mainly help to teach the sustainability section of the descriptor. The site provides teachers with a variety of lesson ideas, activities for the students to complete and information which could be taken home for parents and guardians to read which would help the students to use their knowledge at home.

Education - Resources for Education - Asset Packs - GameSalad | Technology in Education for Lower Primary | Scoop.it
GameSalad is the world’s fastest game design engine. Learn to make and publish hit games for free on iPhone, iPad, Android & HTML5.
Ashley McNamara's insight:

This is an amazing site which enables people to design and use their own games. By incorporating this into the classroom would provide students with an engaging and interesting task to complete. For the students in the lower years the game would have to be completed as a class with the help of the teacher. Students would be able to choose the design, graphics and use the game although the teacher would have to complete the finer details with the game. This would enable students to discuss the way the site operates and how they are able to create the game. This could be used to complete the Digital Technologies knowledge and understanding strand: Identify, use and explore digital systems (hardware and software components) for a purpose (ACTDIK001, a foundation to year two descriptor.

Design a Package

Design a Package | Technology in Education for Lower Primary | Scoop.it
Design Technology - Get the children to look closely at packaging, and then design their own.
Ashley McNamara's insight:

Looking at different packaging and how this effects the environment is a great project for all year levels. In the foundation to Year two stage the children could look at different materials, the type of packaging and the amount used for different products. They could then look at the environment and what type of material is most prominent. The project could cover a variety of sub strands under the Australian Curriculum: Design and Technologies knowledge and understanding and processes and production skills for foundation to Year two.
